Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"And you are the guardian of this place I take it then?"

 

"How did you develop ion cannons but only have sharp rocks to fight with?" Sel asks, confused.


A thick iron handle protrudes from the door, painted gold. A keyhole rests under the handle, though judging from the runes, locking the door is probably irrelevant.

 

"One of them, yes."

"Tribal isolation. Not everyone has a hololens, some of us don't have power."


Ihra tries to open the door, still unsure.

 

"What about the people in power?" Sel asks.


The door opens as any other would, revealing a luxurious looking bedroom with painted walls, a window set in an alcove and a large, soft looking bed next to it. A powerful computer with a large monitor rests in the far corner of the room with an oddly expensive looking chair. Artemis and I appear to be sitting on the bed with Claire, talking to her as her heart slowly beats in her lap.

 

"How about you show me around then? I don't have anything better to do anyways."

 

I wave to her as she leaves.

 

"You're looking at one. Son of the chief of the Rona tribe, literally the most influential tribe there is for my kind. All my augments I got practically for free. I could've become a Gen 0 if I wanted, and I wouldn't have to spend a single coin."


Ihra taps her staff as she approaches the group.

She waves back as the portal closes.

"Well, I'm busy, but you're free to explore."

 

"Whoa!" Sel says, surprised.


Artemis and I look up, while Claire just turns her head.

"Oh, hey Ihra. Finally awake I see." I say happily.

 

I watch it close, then walk off.


A little bit later, Voidfiller portals back to the Void Palace about thirty minutes before his match.

 

"My sister really enjoys the benefits, but I'm sort of a sucker for tradition. I've probably been to more fringe tribes than the rest of my family combined."


"Yeah, I got drained a bit and then hit in the shoulder."

There's a spirit idling outside the training/arena room.

 

"Aww, that's nice of you." Sel says happily.


"Drained? Did someone take your magic?" I ask, concerned.

 

He makes his way over there, not disguised anymore. He’s head-to-toe in various gear, filled bottles, and trinkets of sorts, none of which looks like armor.

 

"Oh. Yeah. Great. Let the person who doesn't know anything about the current location he is at 'explore'. Not really the brightest idea in my opinion."

 

"Well, I may be able to go full auto and get all the latest augments, but we're still born with flesh and blood. Part of me doesn't want to let go of that."


"Shield."

"Look, this dreamland is a bit of a crazy place in terms of living. Someone's gotta keep it safe for everyone."

The spirit turns.
"Would you be Voidfiller?"

 

"That's me."
He nods.
"And you would be?"

 

"Do you maybe know someone else who could lead me around?"

 

"I don't see why you'd want to." Sel says.


"Ah." I say, understanding.

 

"Maqo. You're going for qualification too? I'm on my fourth attempt."

"Knowing more, living longer, there are many benefits."


"Also, what's with the creepy door?"

"Depends. Do you have a problem with ferrets?"

 

"But...you're giving up your humanity!" Sel says.


"To protect Claire." Artemis says, smiling at Claire, whose eyes seem to be staring into Ihra's soul.

 

“Yep. First for me.”
