Supply side economics makes things cheaper for everyone, including the rich, so at the end there's still very little gained or lost in terms of inequality, theoretically speaking. Practically speaking, we still have yet to eliminate poverty through any economic policy.

Regardless, the standards of living in the US are higher in general than in China most importantly bc rights such as freedom of speech are upheld.

Side note, I’m making a thread about economic inequality Soon^TM.

What the fuck did the rich do to you? If an economic policy makes things better for the lower to middle class, why should it matter the 1% are still the 1%? If the rich didn't exist their would be no incentive to capitalism.

I completely agree. I've been traveling around the world since I was 10 and I can confirm that having more perspectives is always helpful :)

You already knew that media in China is a different concept right? It's not like Fox news or CNN---media in China is something between a pure commercial private-owned organization and a government-sponsored cooperation.
    ________________________________
So I cant give you an accurate and clear answer. Chinese media isn't government owned (unlike in most western propaganda) but they aren't commercial and completely isolated either.

Given the current topic we are discussing, I'd like to make a few comments as well: personally, I am rather "westernized" but I'm also very much a patriot. Yes, I am pro-communism (or socialism? cause China isn't "communist" anymore) and pro-Xi, but I am not a zealot and I always treat things objectively. Xi, from my perspective, is doing a much better job of handling corruptions and opening China. It is true that the recent changes in the Chinese constitution (which I already finished studying at the age of 12 before moving on to criminal and civil law) makes people worried about Xi becoming a dictator, but in another perspective, do you prefer having a new chairman who ruins everything he did or do you want more improvements?

Ofc I can't say much about what might happen in the future. But for now, I am not too worried about Xi being the chairman.

Its kinda like the difference between a public high school's newspaper and a private high school's publications.

I guess, it’s kinda weird here about high school newspapers. In Indiana (the state where I live), the newspaper must be previewed and dictated by the principle or administration of the school unless it’s independently funded. B/c of that requirement, most school districts don’t do that. My school district is the only district in all of Indiana that has an independent newspaper. However, the principle can still revoke that right away for any time and for any reason. So while it’s technically independent, it’s not really :-/
    ________________________________
Sidenote: The school newspaper must also explicitly state it doesn’t represent the school in order to be independent.

That’s a very good point. Rulers in less democratic governments can still be better than more democratic ones such as in the case of Otto Von Bismarck. He’s responsible for unifying the German states before World War I into what we think today as of Germany. He was an effective ruler, even implemented programs such as social security, despite being a staunch opposer of democracy. But he’s also a reason why power concentrated into fewer hands is not good for nations in the long term. Bismarck’s biggest fault was that he could not imagine a world without him. During his rule, he became frustrated with dealing with liberal businessmen and aligned himself with far-right religious groups to fulfill his agenda. Although he never fully endorsed their radical ideas, because he had so much power, he laid the ground work for World War I and what came after. Because he didn’t plan for his successors to try to undo his policy and left power concentrated into the radical alt-right, this decision pretty much undid his legacy.

Obviously there is not a single cause for war, but my point is that no matter how good an individual ruler is, he or she cannot protect the country in the long term.

Yeah haha, I go to a private high school in Texas and everything is different with private schools. Administration basically controls us and we are not protected by the 1st amendment rights. I feel you on that part.

I agree with your opinions about Otto Von Bismarck and the analysis you made are really thoughtful. I think it is true that the power of one single rule is still too insignificant but in the cases of China, the party has the greatest power. Hence the question now is if Xi can manage to lead the party, and unfortunately, we won't be able to seek for the answer till maybe after another 3 years.

Welp, politics are like this. Many things had happened throughout the history, yet the only thing we can do is to observe.

Quick note; The reason why rights aren’t enforced as much for students is that the Supreme Court applies the standard of minimum scrutiny to cases applying to students’ rights. Scrutiny in general is how harshly the SC judges a law if that law creates unreasonable discrimination. In the case of students, discriminatory laws are judged less harshly because their status as students is only temporary and therefore not as impactful. That’s why the SC also applies minimum scrutiny to prisoners because of their temporary status (well except for those with life but you get the picture).

In some cases like Tinker v. Des Moines the SC does upheld students rights, but for others not so much. :-/
