But he's unconscious

 

He can spend hit dice while unconscious to regain HP.

 

Do I just roll my hit dice to regain the hp from the short rest? And is that 1d10 or 2d10?

 

You have an amount of Hit Dice, different from your HP. For a Level 2 Fighter like Knaal, it's 2d10. You can spend them on short rests to regain that much HP. You regain half of your Hit Dice upon taking a long rest.

 

7+8=15

 

For each dice you also add your con mod

 

Then it's 17

Val'tash: "She's still annoyed at you for coming in here."
Val'tash turns back to Saelui.
