"...Hi. What are you guys doing here?"

 

"The same thing you're doing"

 

"That spell, it's pretty inhuman isn't it?" I walk and look at them
"I mean, I'm pretty sure those people already had enough in life, and now they're back from their rest..." I shrug and sigh

 

“I am a doctor, not an interrogator. But I shall do what I can.”

The man stood up and walked towards the fallen guard, with Marcus coming up behind. He reached down to the guard and checked his pulse on his neck, then lifted him up and ripped his hood off, revealing a black-haired young man in his twenties or so.

"I would like to ask you a few questions." The doctor said, putting a strip of fabric over the guard's wound on his abdomen.

The guard opened his mouth, then his arm lifted and a knife shot at the doctor's back. However Marcus kicked his arm away, stepping on it hard and making the guard scream.

"....Thank you." The man said, his expression hidden from Marcus's view. He pushed up the guard's head and looked into his eyes.

"Now. Would you mind telling us where exactly we are?"

The guard stammered, then seemed to give in. "Underground..." He said.

"That much is obvious." Marcus commented.

"Is this under the Capital city?" The doctor asked, and the guard nodded.

"Eight.....Fingers....."

"Hm?"

"Watch out...... Ability..... Users....."

"Hey?" Marcus's eyes widened, remembering what happened to the woman he had fought aboveground. The veins on the guard's skin started to pop out visibly.

"So where's Angela and Diabel?" Kayde asked.

"On the other side." Tyrinel said.

"Is Lady Alice with them?" Carol sounded worried.

"Yes, with Lady Roswaal and the butler, Karifer." Rathius explained. "Have you found those two yet?"

James shook his head. "We were busy fighting, but....." He pointed towards the corridor that led out from the room, which numbered...three.

".....a divided path from the very start." Archibaud muttered.

 

"Back up, back up!"
Marcus warned the doctor, doing so himself.

 

"Iza can you sense where they went?"

 

"Inhuman, it is." Roswaal said. "But efficient. As long as the spell is on effect, everybody who dies here will turn into undeads as well."

Suddenly, three blue circles made off light appeared beneath all of them. Angela instinctively leapt away, but the circle followed from under her feet.

Roswaal looking at the spell under her, then shook her head. "It's useless. This is no magic; this is an enemy ability. We can't evade it."

"Is it going to kill us?" Angela asked, tensing her bow.

"That will be too powerful to be an ability. No, it won't kill us, but will affect us nonetheless.............!!"

Before Roswaal could finish her sentence, the light glowed brighter and started engulfing. Angela saw Roswaal widen her eyes in surprise, then————


"Welcome."

In the next moment, Angela was standing in a dark stone corridor. Neither Roswaal nor Karifer were anywhere in sight. But on the wall was....

"Lady Alice....!" Angela called to the girl, but there was no response. Her arms, legs, and chest was covered in a shadow and stuck to the wall. She seemed unconscious; her spirit Dia was nowhere in sight.

Angela, angry that the girl had to get harmed, turned to face the source of voice.

There, standing behind Angela, was a young woman.

She had pale skin and light blue hair, wearing a cloak over a formal clothing and equipping gloves. She looked at Angela, and smiled.

Just then——

The man vomited out blood, and at the same time his body being incinerated. Marcus managed to pull the doctor away before all of this happened.

"So.... that's what it is..." Marcus heard the physician mutter quietly, and turned a questioning look at him.

"Oh no, it's nothing." The doctor said. "It seems.... we have a problem."

Marcus turned to where the doctor was pointing— the other four guard whom Marcus had killed— were getting up. Their movements were lagged and slow— but they were certainly coming back to life.

"What the hell.....!?" Marcus growled. The guards didn't seem to be interested in the other people in the room— and were now heading towards Marcus with their respective weapons (throwing weapons, rapier, club and chains in case you forgot).

"There is a peculiar spell on them. Their corpses seem to have been animated to life." The doctor said next to Marcus. The hunter didn't notice, that the doctor had turned his head slightly to hide his smile.

....No. There doesn't seem to be anyone in those corridors, but perhaps because they're too far away. If this was in the castle grounds, I would be able to find them instantly, but there are all kinds of spells embedded into this place.....

 

"Well... are we going there or should I lure them out?"

He walked towards the corridor and look into it. He lifted one hand.

 

“Amazing, truly.”
Marcus said dryly, taking off his blade-riddled pelt once more.
“I guess I’ll just have to do this shit again.”

 

"I dont think that will work, Iza isn't sensing anyone in these corridors." I sigh "It appears either we split up or randomly guess one corridor"

 

"Yes....." Kayde muttered. "I think it's best we split up. We have enough firepower to deal with enemies if they come upon us, I think. Eight Fingers is a huge organisation; but their ability users aren't unlimited. They certainly don't have their full force in the Capital."

Carol shook her head. "If you say that, then...."

And the group was decided as such: Carol-Kayde-Rathius, Archibaud-Izanami, James-Tyrinel.

"Any objections?" Kayde asked.

Their movements are slower; it might be easier to fight them than before, though. Marcus thought as he stepped forward. Lifting his pelt he blocked throwing picks thrown at him, then faced the rapier and club user coming in from front.

 

He faced the rapier user, leading with his pelt while holding it like a net, preparing to throw it to disorient or blind him.

 

"None from me I'm good to go" I say as I start heading into the nearest corridor

 

"No objection. If it means I get to use my magic, then I'll take it." He smiles, looking at Archibaud.

"Why did you steal the Candidates' Gem?" I ask agressively
"It doesn't do anything if you aren't one of the candidates, soo why?" I say, slowly walking towards the candidate (supposing she is behind me), with my bow in hands and an arrow in the string

 

"Let's go."

 

The rapier user jabs the weapon forward; Marcus uses his pelt to deflect the attack past him, then threw it at the corpse, making it fall. The club user started swinging his club from behind Marcus, from close proximity. The chain user was readying itself from two meters away; the throwing pick user on stand by.

 

Marcus dropped low and rolled away to the side, trying to evade the club user.
“Some help would be nice, at any time!”

 

".....Alright then. I wish you all luck." Kayde said to everyone.

Still, not picking up anyone?

No. Izanami answered. As I said the spells in this place is messing with my senses. It's like........... wait!

Archibaud stopped in his tracks. What is it?

I feel various people approaching– and they aren't undeads.

Archibaud lifted his head, and saw from the other side of the widening corridor almost two dozen people dressed in black clothes approaching, with their hands holding various weapons like knives, swords, spears, etc. Archibaud could tell from their movements that they weren't puppets controlled by a spell, but actual human with real training.

Finally. Archibaud remarked, smiling.

With Carol leading the front with her sword drawn, and Kayde and Rathius holding up their respective shields up, they moved down the corridor.

"That's a nice shield. Where did you get it?" Rathius asked, and Kayde shrugged.

"Apparently, it's an enchanted armament passed down in the Remendis family. Since Carol is a sword fighter and doesn't need it, she lent me this."

"'Carol'? You guys got closer in a short notice, eh?" Rathius chided.

"N-no, that was her request to call her so...." Kayde muttered, turning his face away from Rathius, while the brown-haired youth smirked.

The knight turned an annoyed look at the two of them. "Both of you, shut up. The enemy can hear us." Rathius raised his hands as if surrendering.

The knight suddenly stopped, then pointed to the corridor. "A room." She said in a hushed voice. There was a doorless entrance to a room in the corridor.

"Lets check it out." Kayde said, and the three of them peered into the room.

".....It looks like an armoury." Carol said, standing up. "I don't feel anyone alive in there, but some undeads might be hiding."

"Should we take it?" Rathius suggested. "We might be able to gain information on these guys."

The three of them looked at each other, then with their weapons drawn, entered the room.

"......"

It really was a simple armoury, quite a large one with 20-meter-or-so width. The reason they were so tense— was because of a single rotten body sitting on a stool in the middle of the room.

 

"Time to have some fun" I start rushing them while absorbing mana and as soon as I get about a meter away from the closest one I leap in the air trying to jump over them and start my assault from behind
