"Might keep other faeries away too then." Kia says, taking a bite out of her fish third.

 

"It doesn't need line of sight, you could keep it in a closet or under a floorboard if you really wanted to."

 

"That's useful." Gil says positively.

 

"I mean, I figure that most of your friends would be of the same species... race... whatever term you want to use." Pozel shrugs.

 

"Mostly." Kia shrugs.

"It'll be nice to have some form of security around here that isn't a knocking password." Sel says happily.

 

"Well, think of it like a backup. Mittens will need some time to figure out who your friends are, so it won't digitize anything for a few days."

 

"A calibration period?" Gil asks.

 

"Yeah, because it's used to me and my hut."

 

"You sure you want to give it away then?" Kia asks.

 

"Yeah, I was going to have all my stuff go to my sister anyways, and she's already set. Everything else I just had built into me. The Stella uplink was soooo worth it."

 

"Who's Stella again?" Sel asks, confused.

 

"The sentient collective of information that has hundreds of artificial moons dedicated for data storage. It's sort of like what some people call the internet, except it's not tiny."

 

"Oh, the human's weaker version of Maginet?" Gil asks.

 

"I guess. Except Stella encompasses multiple galaxies."

 

"I'm sure she's well loved." Kia says half sarcastically.

 

"Like a mother." Pozel chuckles. "Like an intangible, giant intergalactic mother."

 

Sel shivers a bit.

"That's creepy." Sel says, creeped out.

"Like something from science fiction." Kia comments.

 

"Nah, she's really nice. I could let you try the uplink if you wanted to say hi."

 

I grab his hand and teleport to the island. People making psychical contact with me teleport with me.

 

"N-no thanks!" Sel says quickly.
