Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Well, I don't know how you are on getting power, but I could drop you guys some of my old stuff. I'm hoping not to return home anyways, having the spotlight on your tribe sucks."

 

"Old stuff?" Sel asks, curious.

"Power is a...limited resource here." Gil says.

 

"Water can fall from the sky? How does it get up there?"

Explaining anything scientific to a bundle of feathers that can barely understand that 1+1=2 is probably a waste of time.

"I could ask my sister to charge it, that should last you a while. I dunno if I'll have to have her get inside and tweak a few things on the hardware, but it should function for... well, anything anyone might want in this realm."

 

Oh, I know.

“Don’t worry about it. I should get going.”

 

"What sort of things are we talking about here?" Gil asks.

 

"Well, I have a self-cleaning silverware set, then there's the 64-terabyte RAM dinosaur that's leagues ahead of anything I've seen here, and I could probably find some security camera or something to keep intruders out of here. I don't know what else I have, I let my cybernetics function as a bed."

"You're tired, are you not?"

 

“No problem.”
I walk off, heading to the portal.

 

"Those sound incredibly useful." Gil says positively.

"It'd be nice to have some security, I'm always afraid we're going to be taken at night." Sel says worriedly.

 

Pozel nods.
"...Hey, Arlei-Rona, did you clean out my house yet?"
"Can you digitize my old craptop, silverware, and M1773NS?"
"Thanks. Yeah, ASAP."
"Love you too. Hang in there."

They follow you partway, then duck into a mound hut.

Nobody else is near the portal.

 

I step through, going back to the Void Palace.


Meanwhile, a portal opens up near the library, and Voidfiller steps through, disguised as a paunched human wearing casual clothes and a toothpick in his mouth. He enters the library, searching for Emerald.

 

She's at the front desk.
"Still trying to fool me, Voidfiller?"

 

“No.”
He says, toothpick balancing in his teeth.
“I was just here ta ask ya somethin’.”

 

"M1773NS?" Kia asks.

 

"Robotic feline companion. I know you don't really like cats, but it doesn't pounce on anything. It's equipped to digitize intruders, then never actually reconstructs them."

 

"What if it misinterprets who an intruder is?" Sel asks, worried.

 

"Oh, relax. It interprets emotions of the homeowners and coordinates that with the emotions and intent of the person entering. If it's malicious, they're screwed. If it's not, it might just sound an alarm, or it'll do nothing."

 

"Oh, really?" Sel asks, calming down.
