"Apparently we're a 'forbidden delicacy'. I can't imagine what it would be like spending your final moments in someone's stomach..." Kia says, shaking a bit at the thought.

"Supposedly your wings get cut off and you're kept in iron cuffs until you're eaten, so you're too weak to fight your way out." Sel says, seeming a little scared.

"There have been movements against it though, very few captured faeries end up being eaten these days, and even fewer captured at all." Kia says.

"More people are actually keeping us around as companions, like dogs!" Sel says happily.

"Except less degrading." Kia says flatly.

 

"You have an island?"

"Dogs are so fluffy! I mean, I'm used to crystal drakes which feel like petting sandpaper... but the sentiment remains."

 

"Dogs are more dangerous to us than people in some cases, but they're also dangerous to people so it's not like we're being targeted." Kia says.

"Cats are probably the most dangerous though, they think we're birds and can pounce on us..." Sel says.

"The world's a dangerous place when you're the size of a human baby..." Kia sighs.

 

"Better than being caught in the middle of a war." Pozel shrugs.

 

"That's true." Sel nods.

 

He points at the crystals. "You think you can get me up there? It looks important."

 

“Something like that. Maybe some tampering, but I doubt it.”

 

He nods, lowering himself to the ground.

"Would the guy who did it kill you if he found you?"

"Well, it was nice to meet you two." Pozel says happily, putting the core back in his tail. "It's nice to finally not be... well, run from like I'm some sort of monster."

 

"It was nice meeting you too. Sorry about trying to scam you out of money." Kia says.

"We're not exactly the richest..." Sel says sadly.

 

"Oh, it's fine. Not like there's no people like that where I live. Besides, you at least have a slight excuse in that everyone's out to capture you for one thing or another."

 

"Scavenging doesn't exactly help with that." Kia sighs.

 

"Let me just.."

He climbs on top of Sgavrinn. "..get on top of you. Alright, all set. Ready when you are."

 

“I don’t think so. I was in a prime position to be killed if he cared enough.”

 

"Well, there's gotta be someone who can help you somehow. Is there somewhere you could go to get help or something?"

"Huh. Weird. Also, why is your sword purple?"

He takes off, spiraling up.
Except you didn't really take into account that it's hard for him to hover.

 

"Gil helps us, he's built a sort of home for us away from disturbance, but we're mostly alone." Kia says.

 

"You said Gil taught you a lot about machines and computers, right? Do you think I could meet them?"

 

Sel and Kia share an uneasy look.

"Uh, sure. Just as long as you don't tell anyone where we live." Kia says.

"You don't have any parts made of iron, do you?" Sel asks.

 

"Alloys with iron, yes, but if magnetism is your concern, no I won't get yanked off anywhere. Plus, I wouldn't go selling out the first two people who don't run like hell from me."

 

"It's not magnetism, no, it's just...us faeries are hurt by iron. It burns us." Kia explains.

 

"As long as you don't dig deep, you'll be fine. Anything iron is internal stuff."
