"Are none of your gods humanoid?" Kia asks.

 

"Gaia can be, she has two bodies, one of them a fae. There's also a merfolk body for O'rogal."

 

"Is she also the goddess of faeries then?" Sel asks happily.

 

“They were a bunch of scientists and engineers, but they’re all dead now.”

 

"Yes, she is."

"Did you kill them?"

 

Sel seems happy.

"So she's like your reality's Nymphaeria?" Kia asks.

 

I shake my head.
“Nope. I wouldn’t be here now if they weren’t dead, though.”

 

"Nymphwho?" Pozel asks, curious.

"Oh. Well, it's nice to be free, but why go that far?"

 

“So far as to kill people to get out? Some just have that kind of rage.”

 

"Do you know who did it?"

 

"Nymphaeria! The goddess of faeries!" Sel says happily.

 

"That sounds kind of cute. I guess that means there are a lot of faeries here? They're sort of rare where I come from."

 

“Yeah. It was the last of my line of robots. Not planned to be the last, but killing every worker sort of does that.”

 

"There were others? Were they crazy too?"

 

"Not as many as you might think. We're probably more common than your reality, but..." Kia trails off.

"We're at risk of being hunted. Some people capture faeries to exploit their powers, or even eat them!" Sel says, shuddering.

"Or just use us as dangling lights. Well, not dark faeries, but the other types," Kia says, "I'd say we're only at as much risk of capture as someone being kidnapped though. It's just a lot easier to kidnap a faerie than a whole person; some people trap us in iron-lidded jars like bugs and smuggle us away."

 

“No, just the last one.”
