Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"So it's like a magic sword?" Kia asks.

 

Sgavrinn makes an odd squeak-ish noise at you in response.
Nobody else makes a sound, if there is anyone.

"Sort of, yeah."

 

"I guess your kind does use magic after all then." Kia says, folding her arms smugly.

 

"I don't think making a wire vibrate is magic. You said if it was like, and it sort of is in that it's better than just a normal sword."

 

"But, you said it wasn't physical!" Kia says, sounding annoyed.

 

"Well, the handle is. How else would you hold it?"

 

"So...a wire vibrates in the handle?" Sel asks, trying to understand.

 

I exit my hiding spot so he can see me.

 

He comes out of an opening between tree roots.
"Hey, sorry about the bucket. I didn't really have time to think it through all the way."

"Yes. The wire acts sort of like a projector for extremely unstable energy. Half the reason it vibrates is to keep the blade from exploding and making a crater the size of a city where you stand."

 

I pull out the crystal.
“Alright. You sure you’re ready? Stay close.”

 

"That sounds hard to exploit." Kia says, rolling her eyes.

 

She winds up putting half of her weight on your shoulder... which isn't much.
"This good?"

"It's designed to cut off the energy flow if it gets remotely close to that point. You know, so you don't have two people taking out everything nearby if they try and overload each other's blades."
Pause, then his tail reveals a few cores again.
"I think I have mine here, if you want to see what it looks like. I won't turn it on."

 

"As long as you don't also reveal you're also our father or something." Kia says.

 

I support her, then I activate the crystal to get back to the Shadow Palace.

You end up at the Shadow Palace gates, two large guards looking at you.

 

"...What?" He asks, turning around and looking through.
"...Ah, guess I left it at home. Didn't think I'd run into trouble anyways."

 

I whisper something to the Matriarch.

“Do you want to eat back at your home?”
I whisper.

 

"You don't think you, an outsider, would run into trouble in the Realm of Shadows?" Kia asks, looking rather amused.

"It's kind of hard for us to stay out of trouble here, especially since a bunch of parasites attacked. Everyone's been a lot more on edge." Sel says, seeming saddened.

The guards' stares give a slight sense of unease, like they're listening.

 

"It's fine. So, about this underground city..."

 

I look up and give them a polite nod.
