"Still seems kind of mean don't you think? Plus, I'm pretty sure most computers are built to withstand overheating. Unless you changed the affinity of their magic chips to the fire element, you wouldn't really fry them much less require a reinstall and a format." Kia says.

"I didn't know you knew so much about computers, Kia!" Sel says, surprised.

"Gil taught me a lot." Kia says happily.

 

"I think my viruses force replicate a killcode that melts the connections... I know there's a full file wipe and another that gives me access to copies of their files. Uhm... oh, right, another leaves residual code behind that causes the hardware to not be recognized. Also, I had no idea computers could be made with magic. I just know that the limit for the rate civilian tech can spread countermeasures is four zettabytes."

 

"Zettabytes? How much is that in tera?" Kia asks.

 

"A billion terabytes."
Pause.
"Yeah, a billion... and I think that's at a spreadrate of per minute, not per second. Military grade is absolutely more than that and absolutely per second."

 

"What form of transmission do you take then? I doubt traveling through open air could be as effective here than wherever you come from." Kia asks.

 

"That's mostly it. FTL the data through air towards the desired area, and if there's an obstruction, find the nearest safe place to reform within... well, whatever the hell a planet's average size is. I didn't bother remembering that."
Pause.
"Military tech just clears the obstruction, not too much different there."

 

"FTL?" Kia asks.

"Familial Textile Luxuries?" Sel guesses.

 

"Faster Than Light. Same stuff we use on arkships and passenger vessels. In other words, often times I'd be able to digitize, move, and reform somewhere faster than your sight could notice that I moved."

 

"Oh, so like most Shadows and Light Creatures?" Kia asks.

"And you too, Kia!" Sel says happily.

 

"Yeah, except we can make it apply to a planet sized arkship and everyone inside. I mean, I don't know what you have here, but that's how we manage that."

 

“Yeah, it seems to have been a poisonous berry.”
I say as I approach her.

 

"It what?"

 

“The thing covered in canvas material that you spit up. It was most likely a poisonous berry.”
I show her.

 

"...Oh, that's not poisonous, just fermented... I usually eat those."

 

“If you say so. Still curious as to why you threw up, then...”

 

"I don't think there's blood in my gut. I only eat berries and plants, and I'm pretty sure they don't bleed."

 

"Which might've been what I thought was blood earlier. I don't know Mantis anatomy, so I can't say for sure."

 

"I think my blood's clear. Maybe it was one of the weird fogs the kingdom used to send into the forest?"

 

"Eh."
I shrug.
"As long as you're not dead, I have no reason to dwell on the subject."

 

"So you dug down to here but you don't know what here is? Makes sense..."
