Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Oh, really? Sorry for troubling you then!" Sel says.

"Wait, tech? You're a robot too?" Kia asks, confident attitude fading.

 

"Halfway there." He says, pinching his skin and then tapping his metal tail.

 

"L-Look, we didn't mean you any trouble!" Kia says, hovering backwards.

 

"Alright. Keep digging. I'll see what I can make out of it."

 

"No, I'm sorry. It's just... I'm not used to being feared for being half a robot. This whole place is new to me."

He nods, still going.
...Ten minutes later, he's still digging.

 

"W-Well, good luck!" Kia says, turning to fly away before Sel grabs her.

"Kia, I don't think this guy is hostile." Sel says.

 

"What are you trying to show me? Is there something down there?!"

 

I chuckle to myself, taking the cloth and the berry back to the Matriarch.

 

He glances at his wrist before sighing and looking back at the fae.
"I don't mean to scare anyone, I just want to learn what it's like to live with magic instead of technology."

She's still sitting there.

He nods, kicking dirt in your face.

 

"You...don't know what it's like to live with magic?" Kia asks.

 

He tries to climb down the hole.
"Alright, easy does it."

 

"No, I've never seen any used until earlier when I got here."

There's not much room, considering Sgavrinn's still in it.
He digs faster.

 

"How do you heal mortal wounds?" Sel asks.

 

"Here, I'll help."
He starts digging himself, following Sgavrinn's lead.

 

"Nanomachines... and if that fails, you replace lost body parts with tech. And if that fails, you're reconstructed as a robot programmed with your memories and behavior."
Pause.
"And prior events shaved ten years off my time before I have to either let myself die or become a full-on robot."

The dirt gets softer and softer as you dig, and after a minute of digging, Sgavrinn stops digging, but you two keep sinking lower as the dirt seems to fall into some cavern below.

 

"Oh, darnit."
He tries to brace himself, knowing he will probably hit the ground.

 

Sgavrinn uses vines to put you on his back as he sticks his face into the dirt and starts to get dragged down.

 

"So you die and your family is treated to a robot that acts like you?" Kia asks.

"T-That sounds horrible!" Sel says, shocked.

 

"It's actually really nice. We get the choice, and the robots are given lifespans to make the choice again. When you live with robots that look just like they did before they were robots, you get used to it."

 

"But...they're not...them! The people they were!" Sel says.

"I like living in a reality where putting someone in a new body means they get to still be themselves." Kia says.
