"Proteus, a Gen 2 auto we credit pretty much as a god. There's a whole cult dedicated to awakening permanently like he did."

 

"What if you don't awaken?" Eve asks.

 

"Then you don't reproduce."

 

"Reproduce? Is awakening part of procreation?" Eve asks.

 

"No, it's... mostly something prostitutes hope for. Being able to reproduce with any race whilst being able to shapeshift into any species you come across is... not up my alley. I'm mostly hoping for Awakening for the sake of regained memories."

 

He moves closer to him and pokes him on the head.
"Why ya ignoring me?"

 

He hums a harsh note, getting up and licking you before curling up again.

 

"Sort of like a succubus or incubus?" Eve asks.

 

"Okay, something is up. What is it? Speak up."

 

"But completely robotic, yes."

He yawns, scooting over and curling up around you.

 

"How would you be able to procreate then? Surely you'd need some kind of biological reproductive system?" Eve asks.

 

"That's mostly the concern of bios, not Autos. Autos are split into four groups; those who think it's cool, those who want to live longer, those who want to become famous like Proteus, and those who want to become intergalactic prostitutes."

 

"Not very good prostitutes, then." Eve mutters.

 

"I'd say they're pretty good, if you can serve as many races as you meet." He shrugs. "Disgusting, but effective."

 

"But, they're made of robotic parts, aren't they?" Eve asks.

 

"They can still procreate with any race."

 

"What are they made out of if not biological material then?" Eve asks, confused.

 

"Mimicking the genetics of others they've met of a race."

 

"Huh..." Eve says, thinking.

 

"Full autos are weird. Like, they can take on any form they want, and they're totally indistinguishable from the race they mimic. Unless you, like, try to stab them and can't."
