"Coming from mines in various places, being sent here. Nothing's ever gone until it gets here, but we've skimmed through our ranks and haven't found anyone who's doing this or knows anything about who is."

"Aj, the King of Shadows, my primary creator." Eve says.

 

"Wait, wouldn't a king and queen be joint primary creators?"

"Not necessarily. It's a bit of a long story that Eve isn't really comfortable talking to people about." Shadow Stephanie explains.

"I meant... okay, that's fine. Nevermind." Pozel says, burying a thought.

 

"If you're near enough. Depends on how the creature's ears work, I guess."

 

Eve cocks her head, curious.

 

"I need to stop asking about stuff I don't understand that involves other stuff I don't understand." She sighs.

He blushes a bit, then takes a mask with an electronic display off his shoulder and covers his face with it. The screen-eyes still show guilt, but it hides some of the details of his facial expression.

 

Eve looks even more confused, but doesn't pursue it further.

 

"How are you going to know if you don't ask? Nothing wrong with that."

 

After a while, the mask shows a less stressed face, and Pozel also seems to be standing straight again.
"So, uh... is there anything I can do to help around here? Maybe just get around, meet some people, find a temporary home and a short term job to get a feel for this place?"

"It makes me more confused, then I have more questions, then I get more confused, then I get frustrated."

 

I shrug.
"You'll get the hang of getting the hang of things."
