"The wyvern had a chat with her. He probably knows something."

 

“They’re little disks with holes in the middle that either play a video, if it’s a DVD, or play a song or set of songs, if it’s a CD.”

 

"So it stores stuff or something?"

Then we could go ask him. What else is there to do, anyways?

 

“Stuff that you can’t touch, yeah.”

 

He gets up and walks towards the wyvern. He gently pokes him.
"Hey."

 

"I thought you knew." Shadow Stephanie says.

 

"How does that work? Is there writing on the thing or something?"

"I've only heard that there was a resistance as of last week. I was told about some shadows helping draconians when I updated my implants."

He yawns, looking up.
"Hmm?"

 

"Well, I guess it's nice to maintain some anonymity." Shadow Stephanie says, turning the dials in the elevator.

 

"We're pretty disjoint from the magic using world. Some of my family lives in Gaia's realms, but they don't keep in touch with us."

 

"A world without magic sounds...difficult." Shadow Stephanie says.

 

"It's pretty sweet. Intergalactic real-time communication, faster than light passenger shuttles, multiplanetary connected knowledge base accessible to everyone... there isn't too much difficult about it."

 

Shadow Stephanie goes silent for a bit, teleporting herself and Pozel to the robotics lab.

 

"It's just different, I guess. I'm not used to all the low-tech ways to get things done. Like, nobody uses handcuffs. Prisoners are kept in stasis cells."

 

"They're not normal handcuffs or cells though." Shadow Stephanie says, heading through the lab. A lot of guardians and Shadows work with computers or machinery, creating and coding.

 

"Not writing, but... it's electronics, so it's complicated."

 

"Oh? What do normal ones look like?"
Pause.
"Ooh, I haven't seen lower end tech for years! Do you mind if I look around before meeting Eve?"

"I'm going to let myself think that they read some kind of writing, and you can move on to whatever's next."

 

"That's a fair enough assessment."
I close what's left of the laptop and hang onto it.
"Anything else of interest on here?"

 

"Sure." Shadow Stephanie says, hiding her annoyance.

 

"Can I have a chat with you about Rema and the others?"

 

"I'm not really seeing anything, no."

"Sure, what about them?"

Pozel pauses.
"...That was offensive, wasn't it? I'm sorry. I can skip looking over shoulders if you're on a schedule."
