Ihra sighs.
"Uhm... is Aj still here?"

"What part of it? That's like asking me to explain the anatomy of a species you don't know."

After a moment of feeling a bit foolish, your hands and feet stop being numb.

Better?

"Oh... I'm sorry to hear that. Did you find any signs of that one number who broke everything?"

 

“No reason to be sorry. I already knew they were dead. And, no, I didn’t find any traces of him.”

 

The guard shakes his head.

 

"Ah, that's too bad. Did you find anything of interest at all?"

"Ah, crap. Alright, thanks. I'll, uh... try again later or something. A super creepy robot bee wanted to talk with him, and it's, like, super bent on shooting everything."

 

The guard just stands where he is.

 

"Not too much, no. I managed to get back a book that I've wanted for a while, but that's unimportant."

 

"Yes. Much better."

"Let's look at the view."

 

"...I'll, uh... keep the bee away from here, and if you could send Aj my way whenever he gets back, that'd be great." Ihra sighs, heading back.

The sun's not quite setting, but you can see it over the sparkling waters on the horizon, the island sort of sticking out like a sore thumb in the middle of the glittering view.

"That's kind of too bad. Was there anyone hanging around there, or was it as abandoned as you expected?"

 

The guard nods.

 

"As abandoned as expected. Which made my job easier, so I can't complain."

 

*sigh*
"I can't wait to get back to the island and wander around a bit more. I'm bored here."

 

"If a robotic bee comes by, tell it Aj's in the Void Palace and hope it doesn't come back." Ihra says, concerned as she leaves.

Better bored than eaten.

"If you don't mind me asking, what was the book about?"

 

"I will." The guard says, sighing.

 

"It's just a picture book with a nice message. It's something I thought to take as keepsake."

 

As Ihra portals back, the guard can see several explosions and a few laser beams going by before the portal closes.

"Oh, I thought it'd be something with sentimental value... well... uh... did they get that far with robotting stuff?"

 

"You got that right."

 

Well... you think the storm will end soon? Not knowing where your pack is sucks.

 

The guard doesn't seem to care, staying where he is.

 

A needle is stuck in the ground near the guard's foot, but the portal closes before anything else comes through.

 

The guard picks up the needle, observing it.
