Last week, the television news show 60 Minutes aired a segment about the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. The law basically makes it legal for people to carry loaded weapons across state borders. In essence, if you are allowed to carry a concealed weapon in your home state, you would be allowed to carry it in all of them. Because states have different requirements for gun laws, this law would make pretty much anyone 18 years of age and not a convicted felon able to carry one of these concealed weapons here in their pocket, their pants or their purse for self-defense against muggers, carjackers and other assailants.

Here’s a link to the full article that summarizes the major points of each side: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/concealed-carry-reciprocity-act-showdown/

I think this is more relevant now in light of the recent Florida school shooting. Tell me what you guys think of it and why or why not it should be passed.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I found it a bit ironic that Republicans usually critisize federal power and praise state rights, but are now trying to subvert state rights...

I also think it's pretty stupid for one state's gun laws to just get overuled by anothers.

Apparently every police department in every major city is against the bill. I could understand why someone in Wyoming would need a gun because it’s thinly populated. I don’t know why then those people are trying to impose those same standards to city life.

Joke aside, i don’t live in the USA, but i think if this stays shootings WILL be more frequent.

    from what i hear...
in some european country (Switzerland?) everyone is required to have a firearm, and they have one of the lowest firearms related deaths in the world (although i saw this on a 9gag infographic so idk how accurate it is lmao)
on the other hand, according to wikipedia, Japan has the second least recorded firearms related deaths (after Hong-Kong) and i know that Japan has very strict laws concerning guns so
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think it also depends on other factors like geography, population size, and demographics. Switzerland has a population of about 8 million, which is in between the average population of the northeastern states. It’s also surrounded by other countries, so if it had strong gun laws but it’s neighbors didn’t, then it would be a problem. Japan, on the other hand, is an island nation with 127 million people, so while dangerous people may be a minority, there is still a lot of them. Not to mention Japan has a high population density compared to Switzerland, so it would be easier to kill more people at once in Japan than in Switzerland.

I generally am anti gun control but this is breaking the law states have their own rules regarding guns and they can't be overwritten like this.

I am 100% for gun control, and so am 100% against this. We need more not less.
It is ridiculous that we should have to grow up thinking of lockdowns as "the norm".
People wouldn't need guns to protect themselves if everyone didn't have them in the first place.
That's what the police are for.
    We don't need vigilantes.
Education is more important than guns.
    Never again.

I’m personally 50/50 on gun control in general. While I do believe that all citizens should be required to take a class about gun safety and usage, I don't fully believe that, "Everyone needs a gun so the 'good' guys can fight the 'bad' guys," or that, "If no one had guns, then the world would be perfect.." Gun control depends on many factors that I mentioned previously, and the gun laws of neighboring countries can drastically decrease the enforcement of your country's gun laws. That's why there are states like Missouri that have the highest gun violence rates and the weakest gun laws, while Chicago has strong gun laws but one of the highest gun violence rates as well. Since Indiana has less lax gun regulation, it's easy to smuggle guns across the border.

For me guns work in two ways you either outright ban them which in the US will be very hard or you keep them there really can't be any compromise like no pistol grip or no barrel shroud a gun is a gun. Things I don't believe are more guns = less crime mainly because correlation does not mean causation and also there are already more guns than people adding a few more guns really won't do much.

I mean it really depends upon requirements for getting guns. Some stares like California have a lot, while some like Arizona have none.

Without reading anything but the op, I would have to say no. The whole point of individual laws per state is for different rules - theres no reason to jsut bypass them witht his act

Y'all should copy Israel's gun laws, we only have a death toll of ~2 per year

Gun laws in Israel are comprehensive despite soldiers being allowed to carry their service weapons on or off duty. Civilians must obtain a firearms licence to lawfully acquire, possess, sell or transfer firearms and ammunition.

Only a small group of people are eligible for firearms licenses: certain retired military personnel, police officers or prison guards; residents of frontier towns (in the West Bankand the Golan Heights) or those who often work in such towns; and licensed hunters and animal-control officers. Age requirements vary: 20 or 21 for those who completed military service or civil service equivalent, 27 otherwise, and 45 for non-citizens. Firearm license applicants must have been a resident of Israel for at least three consecutive years, pass a background check (criminal, health, and mental history), establish a genuine reason for possessing a firearm (such as self-defense, hunting, or sport), and pass a weapons-training course.[51] Around 40% of applications for firearms permits are rejected.[52]

Those holding firearms licenses must renew them and pass a shooting course every three years, and undergo psychological assessment at least once every six years. Security guards must pass these tests to renew their license to carry firearms belonging to their employers.[53] Applicants must demonstrate that they have a safe at their residence in which to keep the firearm. Permits are given only for personal use, and holders for self-defense purposes may own only one handgun and purchase an annual supply of 50 cartridges (although more may be purchased to replace rounds used at a firing range).[54]

In addition to private licenses of firearms, organizations can issue carry-licenses to their members or employees for activity related to that organization (e.g. security companies, shooting clubs, other workplaces). Members of officially recognized shooting clubs (e.g.: practical shooting, Olympic shooting) are eligible for personal licenses allowing them to possess additional firearms (small bore rifles, handguns, air rifles and air pistols) and ammunition after demonstrating a need and fulfilling minimum membership time and activity requirements. Unlicensed individuals who want to engage in practice shooting are allowed supervised use of handguns at firing ranges.

Most individuals who are licensed to possess handguns may carry them loaded in public, concealed or openly.[51]

In 2005, there were 237,000 private citizens and 154,000 security guards licensed to carry firearms. Another 34,000 Israelis own guns illegally due to their failure to renew their firearms license.[55][56] In 2007, there were estimated to be 500,000 licensed small arms held by civilians, in addition to 1,757,500 by the military, and 26,040 by the police

Ice Bear really likes the idea of renewing a license every three years but it doesn't stop criminals from just buying a gun and shooting a week later. Ice Bear says it would only work if guns in the first place was limited to certain people, but it is too late in America for that way too late. Ice Bear wishes this happened in the get-go asides from a few of Israel's stricter laws, it could have prevented a lot of trouble by hindering criminals from getting guns while still allowing people with legitimate reasons for owning guns to own them.
