Generic Fantasy - [5/7]

"Thank you." I say as I place a cookie on his desk.
I walk to my room examine it and if nothing of imoprtance is in there I go to sleep and deam up the rest of my backstory.

 

It's a standard room. By standard I mean ridiculously luxurious, with curtains made of what are most likely the single most endangered animals in the world.
It gives you your own private washroom, a large chest and racks to keep your stuff, and a massive four-poster bed looking fit for royalty. You just straight up collapse in it.
(ZzzZZzzzZZzzzZZzzz....)

The next morning, you find yourself waking at the call of a rooster despite being in the middle of a large walled city. The sun is barely up, and you don't hear anyone or anything. You spy a handwritten note on a table near you, but other than that the room seems to be the same as it was last night.

You're woken up by the same obnoxious sound, finding yourself in some luxury room in an inn. Your equipment and items appear to have been haphazardly dumped in a corner.

I was going to say "..whenever Eradius goes to sleep", but...

You wake up in the abandoned house, with the loud party noises still booming in your ears. You did not sleep well last night.

For the second night in a row, you freeze in place instead of going to sleep. It's a small marvel, and people come and gawk for a while before eventually getting bored. However, day. By the time th3 sun creeps back up, there's a new guy manning the gate, one who's pretty much accepted the night of the living statue.

A few hours of boredom and chat later, you finally decode to go to sleep for the night. When you awake, the silent one is already at the sails.
The hills around the river turned into cliffs overnight, and it now feels like you're at the bottom of a huge canyon. Every so pften, you glimpse a rope, or maybe a ladder dropped down from the cliffs so far above. The river itself is easily a hundred feet wide, but the sheer height on each side dwarfs it. The layers of stone surrounding the water have bands of strange and exotic stones, including a strange purple one you've never seen.
Oh and the fact that this is a basic fishing boat not meant to be slept in means that your back practically died overnight, and you're still stretching it out a while later.

DAY 3​

 

Dez:"They better not have broken my violin" I say as I go check my stuff

 

Thorston: "Damn it!"
Thorston takes a moment to clear his head, then leaves the house.

 

Slowly, I get to my feet.

"Oi! What's with all the purple rocks around here? They look very strange

 

I read a note and eat a cookie. Then I go take a bath.

 

For the most part, everything seems to be fine, not just chucked into the room. Great.

Despite being in a backstreet, your hearing immediately picks up on the sound of way more armor in the streets than yesterday. All of it sounds quite uniform, however, which means it can't be some increase in wildly varying adventurers.

The quiet one shrugs, then points at his brain, the yet-asleep Eneer, and keeps alternating back and forth between them.

The note is written in quick and scrawly cursive, and takes up way too little space on way too much paper.

Eradius,

Most of us woke up pretty early and scattered around the city. It's basically a day or two of free vacation before various nobles and political schemers cope with the Riverthrone being leveled, so enjoy yourself. I'd still advise you to keep a watchful eye, but eh, whatever. Enjoy yourself, don't make your explosions big enough to be noticable, et cetera. Just standard guidelines. ​

The washroom has a large bath, a hand-pump, a bucket, and several scrubbing cloths.

I take my stuff and go explore the city

 

Oh uhhh hi guard person.

 

"Do you think it's doing something with your mind, then? I can't tell if it's doing anything to me."

I walk over to Esser and try to shake him awake.

 

I pour myslf a bath and relax in it.

Thorston curses, goes out towards the door, and peeks outside.

 

You poke your head out of the room, finding a large, arching hallway. Downstairs lies an equally nice lobby, and there are already people down there sipping exotic wines or meeting with each other. Outside, you appear to be in a different section of the city, more expensive and near the center. The city itself gently slopes down from here, so you can see huge swaths of it. The wall are shaped like a giant horseshoe, opening out into massive river docks that dwarf everything you saw in the valley over. Across the river from there are mountains and a giant fissure in them, presumably with roads. Behind you lies the only part of the city higher up than you, a massive castle, still under construction.

There are a few open restaurants and businesses on the road, with an especially nice-smelling bakery on the other side of the street.

The man looks at you with wide eyes for several long moments.
"Umm... so... Do you wish to stay inside the city?

The silent one just shrugs, and goes back to sitting completely still.

He groggily gets up, and you can hear the crink of his joints as he pulls himself up.
"Eh..? Wha... Are we.. err... Good morning."

Your less than optimal body has a bit of trouble, but you manage to pump up the water and climb into a into a rather nice bath.

The backstreet is about as populated as one would expect, a few shady figures here and there but nothing much. There's some wasted guy puking out the window of the loud party house, and the small connection between this place and the larger street is barren.

 

I try to find a magic shop or someone that may be able to tell me more about the pendant

 

Yes.

 

"Eneer, there seems to be some very strange rocks around. I'm not quite sure what they are. Would you have an idea?"

 

Is there a sewer entrance?

 

You begin searching for a few blocks, but you're soon let down in your plans by the fact that this city is huge, and searching it would take several hours.

"Alright then. Your name?"

Eneer leans out the side of the boat towards the closest side of the river, eying a particularly large deposit of it.
"Huh. Amethyst. You can tell because of the paleness. Haven't ever seen this much at once, though. "

There's a small hatch on the side of the street, but that's basically every underground passage you see.

 

I approach the smartest looking person on the street and say
Dez:"Excuse me but would you know where a magic shop is?"

 

Is the hatch big enough to fit down?
