Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

I pretend to jerk Alice along until we get inside.

"Sorry about that, all of the more...social guards got killed by the mimics, and I've had to put some of the stronger ones on gate duty. They're more used to dealing with people trying to kill me than they are helping people out who come to the palace," I explain, "Don't hold it against them, the mimic plague has affected everyone in different ways, and a lot of the guards are struggling to deal with having to see a lot of their friends and family killed."

 

"I figured that was the case. Did you actually want to talk to me, or was Ihra just giving me an excuse to ask you what I wanted to ask you?"

 

"I think it's the latter." I say.

 

"Well, I was going to ask you two things. Do you want public or personal matters first?"

 

"Public." I shrug.

 

"What're you gonna do with the agency now that... well... nobody's there?"

 

"Look into rehiring people that aren't mimics. The position of head detective is open to you." I say.

 

Alice sighs.
"Do you want me in that spot or do you care?"

 

"I'd like to have you in the spot if you wanted to take it, since you're the best detective here." I say.

 

"If you want me there, I figure I'll be convinced pretty quickly. If you don't really care, then no. I retired."
Pause.
"Now for the personal matters. I was wondering if you'd be willing to let me absorb back the half of me I had you take in order to stop bleeding on my porch."

 

"Oh, yeah sure." I say, splitting into two of myself, one of which much smaller which I shape to be like Alice, who possesses her.

"If you want to be head detective, then you'll be allowed pretty much anywhere in the palace, city and realm, you'll get special health treatment and a large pay; I managed to reclaim everything that was paid to the mimics." I say.

 

"What type of animal was it?"

 

"How intensive is the work?" Alice asks, absorbing the part of you possessing her.

"He wouldn't say. He wouldn't even give any details."

 

"It can be quite intensive at times, depending on the cases. These will be things like royal murders, mass people disappearances and the like. Travel will of course be covered." I say.

 

"Wait, you mean these mimics would have spread to other towns?!" Alice says, suddenly glaring at you. "I'll take the job, but only because there's gonna be a lot of mass disappearances."

 

"No, I'm fairly certain the mimics were contained to here. The mass disappearances are things like cult summonings or rituals involving Shadows." I say.

 

"Did anyone in the agency travel elsewhere recently?"

 

"No, weirdly. I guess they wanted to stay rooted here." I say.

 

"Or maybe the hosts were too far from the parent. Oh well, whatever... Yeah, fine, I'll take the job under one condition, and that is I get to do most of my work from home. Also, maybe a personal guard? Pretty sure you don't really want me toting a pulse rifle."

 

"Deal." I say.
