Ruby smiles, keeping quiet.
"...Seriously, though, you probably shouldn't just spend the night making me look like I have extra limbs."

 

“I think he just wanted to hurt them to get information out of them, but then got mad when they swallowed a supposed suicide pill.”

 

The extra arms disappear.

"I just hope nobody saw you looking like some weird four armed dragon person." I say.

"So were you good cop and Voidfiller was bad cop?" Shadow Stephanie asks curiously.

 

“Yeah... if that’s how you want to put it.”

 

"So who got killed? And how?" Shadow Stephanie asks, her eyes lighting up in both senses.

 

“King was stabbed by a Mantis armblade.”

 

"Oh wow, was it a mantis that did it?" Shadow Stephanie asks, curious.

 

"No need to tell me twice."
He eats about half of the meat and then waits for a second.
"Are you still hungry?" He thinks.

 

“Well, that’s where the problems arise. The Matriarch lost a guard before this happened, meaning one of two things: a Mantis killed the king, or somebody killed a Mantis and stole its armblade, then killed the king. The weapon wasn’t found, either, it’s just that the stab wound matches an armblade.”

 

"Or maybe someone killed the guard, and used it's armblade to cover their tracks by pointing evidence toward the guard?" Shadow Stephanie theorizes excitedly.

 

“Well, that’s why I told the people to look for Mantis remains. If they find a detached, bloody arm around, then someone killed them. If they find a whole body, they might’ve been killed somehow.”

 

"Or maybe they killed themselves?" Shadow Stephanie guesses.

 

"We're midair. I'd be surprised if nobody did."

Hardly. Feel free to be done.

 

"Well, it's the middle of the night too." I say.

 

"It's a near full moon."

 

"True, that's a valid point." I say.

 

"Anyhow... maybe I should go visit my sister, spend the night over there. That way you could get back to Artemis or something else."

 

"Yeah, I would like to spend some time with Artemis." I admit.

 

"I've felt the winds, but surely none can stand up to the majesty and soul cleansing phenomenon that is the winds above."

 

"Mind escorting me there?"

"Perhaps you should visit the Way Up."
