"From what you've told me, the thing that tried to pull me to the ground had to be a shadow."

 

"That's...certainly strange." I say, thinking.

 

"Why is that?" He thinks. "You pissed?"

 

I hate getting my fur wet.

"You sure there's nothing else?"

 

"Pretty sure," I say, "Maybe it was just a lower Shadow trying to mess with you."

 

"If that's the case, I'm sorry for calling you out here. I'm sure you've got better things to do than worry about me." She sighs.

 

"Ah like that. Sorry about that."

 

I'll investigate some more.

 

It's better than freezing and dying, but not too much else.
You get hit by a flung bone.
"Ah, sorry."

Walking through the fans, you find yourself inside some kind of active turbine. The water's being pulled rapidly through, but you're fortunately unaffected by it in your spirit body.

 

"You're still very important," I say, "If you need my help, I'll try my best to give it. So will Artemis, and Shadow Stephanie, and even Katie and Stephanie. I got you the smithing job after all."

 

Ruby smiles.
"Thanks. Thanks for giving me a second chance, and... I'm really sorry for everything I did back then."

 

"I'm sorry for how we treated you. Though that's in the past, we've moved on, and we're better people now." I say.

 

"I'd like to think I'm a better person now too. At least, I'm my own person, if that means anything."

Emerald links to you a few minutes later.
"Sorry, kinda wiped. What'd you need?"

 

"I need to get into the Shadow Palace. Xlentia wants her paint re-done; it's scratched."

 

"Where are you now? I moved the one in the library, but I can open one next to you."

 

"Right outside the library, from the fastest path from the training room."

 

"It does, you're not being controlled by someone else anymore." I say.

A pair of dark arms erupt below Ruby's, which swivel around and hug her.

 

A portal leading to the gates of the Shadow Palace opens almost right under you.

Ruby, startled, lets out a yelp and lets energy arc between a few claws before realizing what's actually happening and she calms down.
"O-okay... g-good to know it's not always fatal..."

 

"Thanks."
I send, before going through.
