I don't find them adorable. In fact if the role was to be an actual support character and not a fan-service character, it would be fine. Having an older character and a younger character only for actual plot, character development, and supporting cast (such as adoption or something that shows a Daughter-Father/Daughter-Mother/Student-Teacher relationship) I'm perfectly fine with that. However at the point on current anime, people want quick action along with some comedy and romance. But there isn't a problem with this necessarily, it's just that it has been over-done. In my personal opinion, if they are used correctly as a supporting character or even the main character, it would be fine. As long as they don't completely make it full of terrible things making bad actions and such.

Or at least on my view that is.
