"I heard someone named Ali almost didn't get a job at a certain palace because the guards were suspicious of asking if she could come back later because the queen was in the throne room. Miss Shadow Queen, you've let your reputation succeed you."

 

"I have no idea why Ali is so scared of me. If anything, she should be scared of Abigail and Katie, who actually killed her kind." Shadow Stephanie says.

 

"Why don't you have someone she isn't afraid of ask her and report back to you?"

 

Shadow Stephanie looks at me.

"Alright, I'll ask her." I say, shrugging.

 

“Let me see your hands.”
I say to the one with all flat fingerprints.

 

"You could also ask Ihra or someone else."

He shows you his hands, but they look to have been bathed in acid at some point.

 

"She seems to like me enough." I say.

 

"Also, the only reason I know about her is that technically her hometown was a failed colony."

 

"Colony?" Shadow Stephanie asks.

 

"I am goddess of the stars, and they pray to one each night, so I know their whereabouts. They dispersed across several worlds trying to avoid going extinct as their homeworld was entering an ice age."

 

"Well, that's interesting." Shadow Stephanie says.

 

"It's interesting what you can see from the stars."

 

"Space is alright, though it's pretty empty." I say.

 

"It really isn't. Have you ever been out in space?"

 

"Yeah, a couple times. I know it's filled with stuff, but relative space makes it feel empty. You have to travel ages to reach anything." I say.

 

"What do you use, solid fuel? You guys have so much more time for R&D, how do you not have FTL drives?"

 

"Wings." I say, growing a pair of Shadow Wings.

 

"We can fly, too. Do you just not bother with the cosmos?"

 

"You got me."
He smiles.
"Hope that's good enough."

 

"Not often. Why do I need to?" I ask.
