"Your kingdom sounds very old indeed. Before even surface dwellers? Impressive.*

 

"Screw their questions, are we going to answer the big question or not?"

"Then you may find it a bit strange that the first winged beings came to be in the underground. Again, where there's air there are wings."

 

"Of who killed the king? Yeah, that's pretty important."

 

"Yeah yeah."
He tries to pet all of them.

 

Ali can hear a flapping sound again after a short while, coming from the farm room.

 

"The space down here seems large enough even to hold a gryphon. All Galers could have easily climbed from within the earth. It's strange how those who worship the winds first came from the being they despise the most."

 

Any food around?

 

"Can we just get that done and then address the little stuff?"

The crowd seems a bit nervous, but that turns to curiosity after a moment.

"Despise? None of us despise the underground." Reiglynn retorts.
"All five visit me fairly regularly, particularly Reiglynn here."

A bit of canned food, but not much. You might be able to fashion a fishing rod out of scraps from around the cabin, and there's a wood stove.

Ali cleans up the bit of a mess she made, hoping whoever it is tries one of the cookies.

They all crowd around your hand. It's a bit scratchy, but not as much. They seem to be understanding that the more they squirm, the less they get pet.

 

“Works for me.”
I start heading towards where I last saw the king.
Or, the remains on the king.

 

That'd be back in the castle, and everyone follows you back inside.

 

He tickles the dragonlings under their chins.
"That's better. Is there anything you children would like to do?"

 

"Of course none of the elders despise the underground, but the people of the winds are very adverse to all things that come from the earth. And I see that is why Solis knew the way, since he visits you as often as you say."

 

They still can't understand us...

Four of them roll over, the others sticking their heads straight up and chirping.

"The hatred of the underground is news to me." Erevne says, glancing at you.
"The whelps up there are blinded by their own mettles... even the most devoted apprentice to us elders shuns the unknown."

 

Once I get to the scene, I look to see if anything’s changed.

 

"Right, right."
He continues doing what he does best.

 

It seems undisturbed, though some people have touched the bloodied parts of the king's robe.

Getting scratched?

After a minute of cooperation, the circle of dragonlings turns into a pile as each wants all of your attention.

 

I crouch down to look at the darts again.

 

"Hey, hey. I can only do so much guys."

 

The flapping sound soon fades along with a crunching one.

 

It's metal, blood-covered with raptor feathers.

The creature tastes a slight hint of mint flavor in the sugar cookie, the ball of cocoa and leaves spreading into dust and covering their mouth with the taste of mint and chocolate spreading evenly through their mouth.

They give up and disperse, some going back to playfighting and the triplets waiting at your feet.
