Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"A marker huh?"
He looks around to look for anything that fits the description.

 

Tears start to form in Artemis' eyes.

"W-Why are you showing me this?" Artemis asks, looking up at Petunia.


Myria just lets herself be drawn in.

 

Terrae looks disappointed for a moment.
"Ah. I see. By the way, what is with the large tree outside your palace?"

"I believe now would be fine. Raygyon, are you coming with us?"

 

I ignore them and head in.

 

You don't see anything that'd be a marker, but there's a tree on one peak.
Maybe that's what his contact meant?

Pause.
"...All due respect, I'd love to help but I'm not exactly fond of suicide missions."

"Oh, probably a holiday thing." She shrugs.

Petunia looks confused.


Myria finds herself able to see Artemis and talk, though it's clear the sensation won't last.

The souls of children play in yards, a few running around and chasing each other.

It's peaceful, but the adults still seem mournful.

She shakes her head.
"Sgavrinn and I will be heading back to the castle. Besides, I think you've had enough travelling with us for one day."

 

I smile.
“Yeah. I understand how it can feel that way. But it’s not that much of a suicide mission if you’ve got gods yourself.”

 

"Does your friend know any nature magic? Cause I see a tree over there."
He points at the tree.

 

"Even then, what can we do? If gods are in danger, how would my people be able to help in the slightest?"

He glances over.
"No, but that's probably it."
He starts to descend, circling the peak.

 

“Every little bit counts, really.”

 

"Looking for a cave or something?"
He looks around for a cave.

 

Katie pats Artemis on the shoulder, trying to be comforting.


"Artemis, I love you. I'm extremely proud of you, how you've grown without me, and how you've dealt with life after I've been gone." Myria says to Artemis.

"M-Mum, I-I still miss y-you so much." Artemis says, crying.

"I'll always be with you, Artemis. Wherever you go, whatever happens, I'll be with you." Myria says, pointing at her necklace around Artemis' neck.

Artemis clutches Myria's necklace.

"I-I love you too, mum." Artemis says, trying to stop crying.

Myria smiles.

 

Any reason the adults are mournful?

 

"Perhaps. Either way, I'm ready to depart, Solis."

I approach the elder

 

"I see. I'll be sure to have a present for you when I return." Terrae says, bowing before leaving to look at the tree outside.

 

You'd have to ask them, and judging by how tense the guards were with you, it's unlikely they'll talk easily.

"Oh, you flatter me." She grins.

The tree is fully decorated, lit up with colorful lights... but many of the ornaments have ashes in them, along with a name and two dates etched - each one is a grave.

He lowers himself.
"I think you know the basic courtesy of flying on the back of another creature. Have consent, don't attack it, and if you piss it off, it holds the right to drop you out of the sky at any time."

The seed soon shrivels up into nothingness.
Petunia rolls one eye back and keeps it there, glancing around at the rest of your group before offering Katie a bubble-print present.

"Ideally, yes."
You seem to have as much success as the wyvern - none.

"...Though it wouldn't surprise me if there's a false cover. In fact, that gives me an idea."
He starts to dive before realizing he has passengers, taking it slower as he lands near the tree.

"Yeah, but... what is it you want us to do, even?"

 

“Fight, I’d imagine. You lot aren’t strangers to that.”

 

"We had every advantage going for us. We're not exactly meant to take down anything bigger than us."

 

“I believe you’ll be fighting human-sized creatures, or smaller. As far as I know, Emerald’s not asking any of you to fight gods.”
