The Vip Town Paradox

There was always Bob the Zombie in ragni. There was always Bob's lost soul. There used to be VIP town.

Salted said somewhere else that I can't find that the use of the old version of Ragni in the grand discovery was intentional. This means that as the updates come, in game time passes.

In one discovery, we see bak'al destroy VIP town in 347 AP. In the grand discovery, we see Bob and Bak'al in 886 AP


What this means:

Either:
The Admins mucked up

Or:
Witherhead is not Bob's mum (That discovery said that the people of Ragni hid in the sewers in 854AP)
Bob is at least 500 years old.
Bob definitely faked his death.
We are at least 650 years old

Not necessarily. The usage of the older version was probably to evoke an "oh, it's an old version, how nice" nostalgia feel. Canonically, every modern-day event happens in the year 1000 AP (Why would it take the Baker Cook 653 years to get ingredients for cake?). After all, new players have the same quests as us, but they (probably) don't know what old Ragni looked like without looking it up.

Bak'al's age is a special case. He is only described as a "corrupt entity". He could be timeless, since undead corruption magic and stuff. Though he was once a human, that doesn't mean that a complete and full corruption-ification (or is it just "corruption?") would cause him to retain human traits. Have you heard of a skeleton dying of old age?

A possible interpretation of a change in appearance doesn't necessarily entail a full-scale lore shift (and we know how much @SPYROHAWK hates those). They probably only wanted to improve design (and, for old Ragni, instill a nostalgia-based easter egg).

I meant that the assumption that the player was present in Old Ragni is now non-canon.

Basically. Except this isn't really an installment; since the actual "release" for the complete Wynncraft lore is in the main storyline, due Soon™.

Edit: Well, actually, it wouldn't technically be a change in facts, since the overall scheme remains: we are in present-day Ragni. The definition of present-day Ragni just changed got a slightly different connotation, and even then, in a minor way.

 

I think everybody can agree that we're all pretty mad/angay/sad/dissapointed that they removed VIP town from the lore. It's like them saying "we care more about our lackluster lore then about oldest members of community."

My problem is that they present the non-canon Ragni in canon lore, which, in your language, creates 2 present day Ragnis.

 

If anything VIP town was added to the lore. Before it made no sense because it was based on a real life purchasable rank, but now it was a real settlement that was attacked and destroyed. In my opinion, it gives more character to VIP town and gives us all some nostalgia too. Also as one of the older players myself, I care far more about the "lackluster lore" then recognition for donating a few bucks to a server I enjoyed.

How was it "removed" from the lore? If it was removed, there wouldn't even be ruins for the VIP Town in the first place, along with no cutscene of VIP Town getting destroyed.

Just because certain removed elements of the game were re-incorporated into the past doesn't necessarily mean that 650 years have suddenly passed in the game's story.

This strikes me as very odd, and I don't think they quite considered the implications of this. So the discovery cutscenes take place in 886 AP (114 years before the game), and we see a 32-year-old Bob fight Ba'kal. We are then told that Ba'kal could never enter a city after this. Now, new Ragni looks to have seen a fair few battles and looks like it's been quickly repaired afterwards with wood, and looks too different to the old one to have been built on top. We never hear of a major attack on Ragni more recent than 886 AP, and it's considered very safe and has Bob to protect it. This basically rules out the possibility that old Ragni was destroyed in an attack (and I don't think it could have been rebuilt and then damaged to that extent again in the 16 years Bob's been gone), so we must conclude that Ragni was torn down and rebuilt, to no strategic advantage (new Ragni looks about as defensible as the old one). WHY? It seems like a massive waste of resources and manpower that would better be spent fighting the war or constructing something new. They clearly don't have all that much when it comes to repairing new Ragni... Plus their emblem changed. Why would one of the oldest fortresses of Wynn change their flag, when it would basically be universally recognisable to the people of Wynn. At least change that to the new letter R one on old Ragni, if only just to show it's not a mistake.

I believe what would make more sense is if we say Ragni was damaged beyond repair in 854 AP (during the raid when Bob was born and the only safe place left was the sewers).

 

Does it have any mentrion of it being VIP town? The dead VIP member enemy was removed. Now the city is just that, another city destroyed by Ba'kal.
