SPOILER Dern Lore Theory

I thought of this theory for a while now and I think its time I share it with others to see if it makes sense to other people as well -

So basically I dont think Dern is simply a dark land filled with evil , or at least I dont think it always was one .

What I believe happened is that before the corruption and the portal Dern was a regular province , and everyone knew about it , it was just like wynn and it might have even been in good terms with wynn .

but then somehow years before the portal opened or even existed some kind of a powerful dark force got into dern for some reason (could be the portal to the dark realm is located in dern just like the one to the light realm is located in gavel and at that time it just opened or something passed through it).
That dark force (probably the eye) slowly took over the province just like the corruption did with wynn , at this point I believe the passage between dern and wynn was blocked and dern was forgotten , Maybe rumors of the dark force spread and the humans of wynn blocked the gate way to dern or maybe the people of dern did it to prevent the dark force from getting into wynn .
after some years of fighting when the dark force started dominating most of the dern province the portal appeared in wynn (still not found just started existing) because of the clash of light from gavel and the dark force who was taking over dern . Now there are 3 options to how I think this could have gone and connected to the main story line all of them are ways bob's mom could have gotten to wynn(assuming she was from dern , which is highly likely) -

1) the war lasted for another 1000 years before the dark force finally won over the people of dern which is when bob's mom escaped to wynn using some secret passage

2) people from dern have insanely long lives (which could be possible cuz we know bob lived to at least 116 years old) and bob's mom was hundreds of years old when she gave birth to bob

3) bob's mom used time travel to get from dern to wynn (possibly connected to the time valley) (Im basing this on the assumption the being in the time valley discovery was also someone from dern who tried to pass to wynn but failed)


This is the theory , there arent many facts supporting it but I believe its pretty close to the truth we might know more when the road to dern update comes out but right now its the best I could do.




TLDR; - dern wasnt always evil something took over it and indirectly caused the corruption in wynn

 

The theory is really cool but that Gavel part,i don't think it makes sense.

 

Wasnt sure about it aswell just tried to find a way all the lore from gavel wynn and dern connects together
Let me try to explain it , basically imagine a game , where there are 2 teams , the more land one of them takes the stronger it becomes . but when a team gets much stronger the balance between them is broken and one over powers the other one , in that case the other one starts suffering from it . here the darkness has more land which makes it stronger (corruption is the main reason) so the light starts suffering from it (the decay)

 

the decay was created by the greed of the villager

 

any specific quest or npc saying it? I cant seem to remember that

As the realm became corrupted, the darkness spread into Gavel in the form of the decay."

I think it's kind of a given that Dern is to Gavel as the Realm of Dark is to the Realm of Light. Dern is a province that houses the portal to the Realm of Dark.

based off the tl;dr alone, Dern and the Corruption are unrelated for the most part. At best they're loosely connected

 

we cant know with the information we have and you will need to read the whole thing to understand how I connected them together .

 

Dern houses the portal to the Realm of Dark- Corruption was created by the Realm of Dark and the Realm of Light colliding. They're loosely connected.

But yeah, Dern itself did not cause Corruption. I think the Eye and Corruption aren't connected.

 

you say that corruption is made by the clash of light and darkness and than you say dern isnt the cause of the corruption , so which one is it ? because if dern houses the realm of dark and it collided with the realm of light which was what made the corruption than dern did create the corruption in a way

 

It's certainly possible that the corruption was deliberately started by the Eye or someone in Dern as a weapon against Wynn and the Light Realm. However, I'd guess that it would also be hostile to darkness (the Corruption seems to be hostile to anything that isn't corruption), so it's possible that this plan backfired.

I would also say that the people of Dern may well be the Ancients seen in WynnEx D, who moved to the Dernel Jungle after fleeing Dern (perhaps that's even how it got that name)

 

I remember an admin once said dernel jungle has no connection to dern , however its very possible that the ancients were residents of dern once since if you walk in their city you can find signs that talk of the eye and darkness

 

Dern is not responsible for the Realm of Dark. Gavel is not responsible for the Realm of Light. Gavel and Dern have nothing to do with the Realms, the Realms govern themselves.

The two Realms want to take over everything, and so they're fighting each other for ground. They have equal motive.

 

the way you wrote it made it seem like you meant the realm of darkness because right after you mentioned the eye and how it was not connected to the corruption when by following the logic that the eye is the representation of darkness from the realm of darkness it is infact one of the main causes for the corruption even if its not intentional

 

We have no idea where the Eye came from, or if it's even related to the Realm of Dark at all. I guess I shouldn't have mentioned that, my bad.

Regardless, the Eye is likely completely unrelated to the Realm of Dark's nature to take over everything, just like the Realm of Light, and as a result completely unrelated to Corruption.

the realm of light did have some guy who was the boss there i cant remember his name there is a quest about him and all (and there might be a dungeon too) , I think that the eye is his version of the dark realm
