Corruption Or Decay?

I was wandering around the Kander forest and came across this (yeah it's probably already found)

Furthermore, there are enemies nearby called "Corrupted Souls".

...how did the Corruption get into Gavel? I know that "Eye of the Storm" involves "corrupted magic". However, the Abyssal Acolytes seem to be human-like, but overall villagers. Why are they trying to bring the Corruption to Gavel, if they even are related?

 

I already found that and i didnt understand anything too....

 

Corrupted souls doesn't mean affected by corruption; they could just be like, twisted by evil. As for the spot, maybe it means corrupted by darkness, not corruption. Multiple meanings r causing confusion

 

This is basically why Gavel needs a revamp. It’s lore is all over the place. It basically copies Wynn’s whole corruption deal, yet tries to say it’s different even when it contradicts itself half the time. I wouldn’t mind the light vs. dark narrative so much if it weren’t for A) It’s extremely cliche and overused and B) Wynn does it better in every single way. This makes Gavel boring and bland, hence why I enjoyed the last update bc it actually made Wynn interesting.

TL:DR They should actually differentiate Gavel from the rest of the game like Corkus, and not have just a bunch of races and a copy of corruption that overall don’t matter.

A lot of territory names don't match the canon of wynn

 

I started writing that theory, but stopped when it got too complicated, especially when Dernic stuff decided to get involved. With the new lore changes the Dern stuff is irrelevant, but it's still a pain of a theory to write.

For now, forget about it and assume it's meant to be Decayed (same with the mobs, they changed the name of a Corrupted Spider in the Light Forest because there's no corruption in Gavel) or just blame EotS

I think that's where the Molten Heights storyline is supposed to fix everything, making Gavel it's own unique thing...

Tbh, I agree. Gavel's decay only really LOOKS different, but has pretty much the same cause (clash of light and dark, yadda yadda), and as far as we know, effect. The only real differences seem to be how the corruption seems more nethery and causes the undead to rise.

Although, if we're being honest, most of Wynncraft's lore needs a revamp. The corruption seems to have contradictory beginnings (nether portal, clash between light and dark), we still don't really know what really happened to skein, and gavel is just a mess of loose ends (dullahan, the worm holes, nagarath, the mortal mountain, the forgery and why that's connected to WYNN dungeons, siegfried etc.). The only decently tied up loose end is Corkus and even then we still don't know what happened to Cerid

 

Molten Heights is more separate to Gavel than the Sky Islands are. It still wouldn’t fix the messy lore and the horse-beaten dark vs. light theme. If I were to revamp the lore, I would completely get rid of the decay, and focus more on the villagers’ greed and other races. To some extent they have already done this, but the races are far more interesting than the Light Realm and decay. Overall, the story shouldn’t be Fern Gully.

I think that’s why they added those discoversies and dungeon quests to Wynn. Hopefully they will keep adding more, but if they did cut out the whole decay, they would have to rebuild a quarter of Gavel.

The decay isn’t caused by the clash of dark and light. It’s caused by the villagers greed affecting the realm of light, which then decays Gavel as the two are linked

 

I do have to agree with you to an extent on the "Decay= Corruption" part. Though I believe it is possible to rework the lore without removing the entirety of the Dark Forest, but simply revamping various parts of it lore-wise (and maybe build-wise) could work... They could just give a more different explanation on it while still connecting it to the Realm of Light? Hell if I know.

What I also agree on is that Gavel needs a revamp in a couple places, I hope the next update is focused on Gavel, especially it's quests, similar to what the last few updates have done for Wynn. Some quests like "Finding the Light" and "Acquiring Credentials" to me are fine, because while they're simple I still find them fun to play. Buuut at the same time you have quests like "Star Thief" and "Eye of the Storm"....
Gavel's still my favorite area damn it I want to see it get some love.

 

I came up with a much simpler theory:
What if the villagers in the Order of the Abyss realized that corruption = emeralds?

 

How would that explain anything at all?

 

The reason why they would want to bring the corruption to Gavel is to corrupt the stone, producing emeralds. Since they are villagers, they likely have a natural greed for such. At least, that's what I think.

 

so lets look at it this way

Light----> Corruption <----Dark

In this case, the nether is a product and is sort of the Realm of Corruption, sort of how there is the Realm of Light and the Realm of Shadow, during it's (violent) creation, the Corruption needed a realm of its own to manifest and take influence, and as such, the Nether was created.

The Nether Portal is sort of how Light's Secret works. The portal to the realm. The Nether Portal is to The Nether/Realm of Corruption as Light's Secret is to the Realm of Light.

Then it had to find a place to manifest its entrance and link to it. Wynn was the PERFECT option as it was in between Dern, which is linked to Shadow, and Gavel, which is linked to Light, as such Corruption is created in between.

So then the excavations of what would soon become the Roots of Corruption uncovered the portal. As the miners made their way inside, they soon uncovered the army of corruption, which, as soon as it awoke, the Corruption awoke with it.

Afterwards it needed a Corruption Beast sort of how Orphion is the Light Beast and the Eye is the Dark Beast.

then the powers of Corruption infiltrated the mining captain.....

so there you go, it's not conflicted at all, you just need to tie it together with how the ROL, and probably how the ROS works, and everything pieces together.
