"Okay... well, if you can come outside, I can help you understand just how much magic a charge is."

"And you're sure you want to talk to her? I don't want to bother her with nothing."

 

Vexa puts the sword she was polishing back on the wall, before turning to Ruby.

 

You're the one who told her off. Just tell her how you feel.

 

"Alright."
He reaches for the sky.
"Like this?"

 

Ruby steps outside, summoning her staff and waiting for Vexa. Once she's outside...

"Okay... a charge is a loose term for the amount of magic a human can hold safely without disintegrating. Would you mind creating a fireball?"

The sun seems to flicker.

Maybe...? That seemed like a good sign.


After a minute, the ziz starts descending towards you.

 

"Never heard that term before." Vexa comments as she creates a bright fireball above her hand.

 

Ruby looks at it.
"I'm gonna have you make it bigger until you see how much a charge of magic is."
Pause.
"...You're at a tenth, bigger."

 

Vexa increases the fireball's size until it's ten times it's size.

 

Ruby pauses.
"Just a bit smaller."

 

Vexa decreases the fireball's size a little.

 

He waits for her to land, standing straight and confident.

 

"If the god is just, then it must be omens. This must be one in itself."

I grab the prisoners, release the bonds, and take him to Sgavrinn

 

Ruby looks at the fireball a bit more before nodding.
"Okay, good. That? That is one charge of magic turned into a fireball." She says. "If you want to learn my craft, you will need to be able to maintain thirty times that. For a shortsword."

Sgavrinn looks at you, confused.
He kees quiet, nervous.

She lands, staring right at you.
"Well?"

 

"Do you have ANY idea of the damage you have caused?"

 

She nods.
"I see the ruins of many peoples, homes of destroyed, charred corpses. The skies smell of smoke and tears, and the land lies desolate before me."

 

"W-What? That's crazy! Even an experienced sorcerer would need to have a circle of fully charged mage crystals to sustain thirty times this!" Vexa says, "I can make about five times this before it kills me completely!"

 

"I used thirty to make the blade I gifted you." Ruby shrugs. "I have yet to find a staff that's suitable for my craft here, and the one I had made for myself was stolen. I made it in the image of a legendary staff called Miznyana. A near-perfect replica, without it's mythic power of absolute creation."

 

"Well, I think we're far behind your standard of craft here." Vexa says, shaking her head.

 

"Now you see why I insulted your guardian weapons?"
