By the way, members of Erevan's faith always rise at dawn precisely, no matter their race. Just a little lore tidbit.

 

If we were aware of our surroundings then how did we not happen to notice someone/something sticking a knife into me?

Heat: "Althiaos, take a look."
I show him the knife.
"I have no clue how this happened to find its way into my arm. I doubt it flew into my arm on its own."

 

Alth:"oof that doesn't look to good... Mind if i take a closer look?"

 

*Shrug* probably magic

As you rotate your arm to show him the knife, you notice it's not just a dagger. There's a piece of paper there too, stuck in place with the knife

 

Heat: "Go ahead. Inspect it thoroughly, and leave it there until someone who can identify it wakes up."

Heat: "Another clue!?"

I rip the knife out of my arm and grab the paper.

 

Alth:"... I litterly know magic items inside and out i can identify this thing in no time at all"

 

Heat: "Nevermind that. I doubt it has any purpose besides holding a paper up.."

 

Ripping the knife out does no damage, since I'm nice

The paper reads
"To get what belongs to you, use what belongs to me. In the place what is lost, find a stone key."

 

I have that abilty that i can't remember the name to that let's me identify magic items so i use that on the dagger anything?

Alright i thought there was no casting time brb while i check it

 

Heat: "It wouldn't hurt to identify the knife, now that I think about it."

"The paper reads: 'To get what belongs to you, use what belongs to me. In the place what is lost, find a stone key.'"

 

Alright there is a casting time so i'll cast that

 

You can only cast it as a ritual. Rituals don't use a spell slot, but take 10 minutes

 

Alth:"have you lost anything? Or anyone for that matter..."
Alth:"and why would anyone stab you so they can leave a criptic message"

Alright well i'll cast it for 10 minutes let me know what i find

 

You spend 10 minutes doing the thing

Spoiler: Identify

1) The knife has no magical properties
2) There are no properties, so you can't use them
3) It does not require attunement to use, as there are no magical properties for attunement to affect
4) The knife has no charges
5) The knife has no spells currently acting on it
6) The knife was made via the Fabricate spell


You can also cast Detect Magic as a ritual. You probably should have done that to see if it was magical, before trying to identify it's magical properties

 

Heat: "A Dao appeared practically out of thin air yesterday, things should not be questioned anymore."
"Ti'Lin lost his father's necklace. Which is made of an.. old friend. Whoever stole it is trying to get something through to us, in the form of riddles."

 

Alth:"well thats handy to know"
Alth:"the knife seems to be made by the spell frabracte i'll try one more thing to dig up so more info"
I cast detect magic on it

 

You should cast Detect Magic before Identify so you can know when to identify something.
