As a massive Star Wars fan and enthusiastic gamer, I am hyped for battlefront 2, coming out this November. Next weekend, I should add, is the open beta, which I will definitely be checking out. If you share my opinion, feel free to post below, and the same applies if you don't (but please don't be overly critical of a game which people are looking forward to and isn't even release as of the time of writing). Thanks!
(Note: this is just in order to have a discussion as most of my irl friends aren't gamers or don't play battlefront)

It's really fun, but the loot crates riun the game for me and i'm not going too be buying it because of that.

A person calculated that it would take around 3,000 hours too unlock everything with this system.
It's also P2W and i just don't want to support that.

Wow people actually responded after a while. I loved he beta, but didn't get a huge amount of time to play it, but if loot crates can be unlocked at the same rate as in the beta, it won't be too P2W. Also, @Peter_Marius , I would like to point out that according to EA we are getting free, regular content additions of similar size to the old season pass in the 2015 game, but somewhat more often. So, I don't think that a few micro transactions which are completely optional are that bad compared to the fact that we're getting free dlc, and it's (iirc) the second most expensive game to ever have been developed, with three (? I think) different game studios.

Well, that wasn't at all ranty in any way.

People can pay for the crates and get items, also the only way to progress in the game is with loot crates so if you can pay for them then it's p2w

Really? I guess that's sort of true, but honestly I don't care about loot crates. If someone else wants to buy some credits for a chance at some ability upgrades or cosmetics, fine, but I'll just play the game normally. Tbh I might actually get some at some point, but idk.

The thing is about the loot crates is its basically the only way to get good items from the game. Here you have an extremely good player who refuses to buy micro-transactions, he'll therefore get really crappy items because of how credits are rewarded and how the crafting mat. works. I mean come on, the drop at a very low rate, combine this to the amount of crafting mat. a weapon is/weapon mods is outrageous, but this maybe fixed in the final build. Meanwhile the really crappy player wants to get good at the game really fast, so he steals his mother's credit card and spends it all on loot crates therefore getting some of the best star cards and maybe even some weapons if he can still get enough crafting mat. if he's lucky. The whole reason why battlefield and overwatch can get away with this, is because their loot boxes are purely for cosmetic, where as like battlefront2 and halo5, you need to have them in order to get better loot.

    This shows EA's true colours.

Sort of bump cus the game is coming out in 9 days.

Also: I don't know if anyone else has seen this, but EA are responding to player feedback about loot boxes. Admittedly they're not removing them, or even (unfortunately) removing the paying irl money for them. However, they are adding a system so that rich people can't just get all the best star cards and weapons. You have to level up a hero/class by using it, which also rewards you with upgrades for that class. Loot boxes will give you basic weapons and level 1,2 and possibly 3 star cards, but the best ones need crafting. I hope the crafting materials come more from levelling up than from bought loot crates, but I'm not an EA dev, so...

Well, it apparently takes like 40 hours to unlock a new hero, and their post defending it is the single most downvoted post on reddit of all time, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say people REALLY do not like it.

Yeah. They really messed up with that, but what's good is that they are listening to feedback. Yes, the heroes are still locked, but it's much more achievable. They range between 5,000 and 15,000 credits, which may seem like a lot but is nowhere near as bad as what it was before.
On the other hand, I don't think they had any choice in the matter - how can you get the most down voted comment in Reddit history and not change it, in all honesty...
Still, despite all the stuff that EA has messed up, I and lots of other people will still be buying the game soon after its release. I'll be getting it for Christmas.
    Also, has anyone seen this?

I stopped buying EA's games ages ago, because it's EA, but the drama behind this one is phenomenal. I wonder how much of an impact the Reddit community will have on the future of gaming in general.

But that hero reduction came with a price, a price that affects the rewards you get from the campaign. You can't expect EA to do something good without there being a catch.

I'd prefer a paid DLC than all the shit EA is doing.

I just saw some stuff you can get from loot boxes. Increased aim assist? Game is pure P2W, no idea how could anyone support that kind of a game design.

    OHH but it gets better!

The campaign is not 12 hours, no not 10 hours, but 4 hours.

Depends. Some people will go through it quicker than others, and they're adding new levels. I think it would be interesting if instead of buying Iden Versio as a hero you had to complete the campaign, but they'd then probably have to have another character who gets added from the Light side otherwise it would be unfair (ish).

Honestly, I think they have messed up a bit with trying to make money, but tbh all companies do it now. Also, I think it's partially because it's like the second most expensive game ever developed, idk what the most is, but they probably want to ensure they make some profit, although they almost undoubtedly would have without all the stuff. Still, I'd rather have the free stuff and loot crates than what the old game was. Their reasons for having all content accessible without paying extra are relevant, even if they've gone about it badly. I admit I had the season pass from the last game, but only because it was in some half price sale on ps4, otherwise I probably wouldn't have bought it. It did break up the player base a bit tbh.

Well the thing is about the old progression system is that you had to put in time and effort, where as with Battlefront 2, while there is a progression system to get the crates, people will most likely just purchase a shit ton of crystals which in turn gives them their loot. It requires no skill to be put into it. And unless you want to earn more credits, well good luck, cause of the current credits distribution its gonna be a long while (maybe it was changed in the early access idk).

Also when I expect to buy a fully priced, 70 euro game, I expect a decent and finished campaign, not a 4 hour long joke with a work in progress story mode which will come out in some "free" DLC.

Not to mention how you get the heros is still ridiculous, I know they patched these but still, it basically as worse as how Bungie made their D2 shaders part of their micro-transactions, despite them being bought for in-game currency in the first game. But unlike the shaders, the heros are a massive part of the game, even sometimes game changing.

It is because of these and many other reasons why I will not be buying this game until EA makes some non-bullshit apologies, explanations, or fixes

Welp. There's no micro transactions anymore. That's a surprise, but a pleasant one to be sure.
