    Exactly what it says

    This copper amulet contains tiny interlocking gears and is powered by magic from Mechanus, a plane of clockwork predictability. A creature that puts an ear to the amulet can hear faint ticking and whirring noises coming from within.
    When you make an attack roll while wearing the amulet, you can forgo rolling the d20 to get a 10 on the die. Once used. this property can’t be used again until the next dawn


    1/day you can turn an attack roll into a 10. I don't see why this would ever be used unless you know that 10 + your attack bonus will hit, and you don't want to risk rolling lower than 10

    Idea I had: Minion master character. Chainlock 3 for familiar, Artificer 6 for mechanical servant, Ranger 3 for beast companion...

    How else could I get minions? And permanent ones, not summoned creatures.

    That could be interesting.

    I know GOOlocks are typically known as the best Chainlocks, due to their spells being about controlling (and their level 20 ability).

    Another idea is dropping Artificer and going for 11 levels in Conjuration Wizard. You get a bunch of temperary summon creatures like elementals, beasts, fey, AND now with the Xanathar's stuff you get Demons and Devils. They also get buffs to temp hp and dont need concentration and stuff.
    However, you also get access to Create homunculus at level 11. This is a transmutation spell that gives you a permanent construct minion. It's not as good as the Artificer's minion, but it's still a permanent minion, and you get all those temp minion spells

    Wait, isn't Raven Queen Warlock a thing, with a raven companion?

    Temporary summoning isn't what I want, but Warlocks don't get Create Homunculus...

    So far, Artificer 6/Raven Queen Chainlock 3/Beastmaster 3, up to 12 levels. Maybe if I dropped Beastmaster for Conjurer and grabbed an extra Warlock level...?

    So.. what really is the whole idea behind those Xanathar items? Are they just for fun or will they have a big imput on the story?

    Yeah, I forgot about that. Raven Queen didn't make the cut for Xanathar's, so it's still not official. But yes, along with your Chain familiar as a Chainlock, you also get the Raven from Raven Queen

    They are just for fun. On the DnD magic item rating list, it goes common, uncommon, rare, very rare, legendary. But if you look in the DMG, there's like only two common ones. So Xanathar's added a bunch more.

    It was explained in an interview that the point of the items was to not have an actual effect on the characters (although a few do, like the ones that give spellcasting abilities or changing appearance) and just have fun little things like a cloak that billows dramatically on command. Since they don't add any power to the players, I'm letting everyone grab one for a fun little thing

    Well, the ruby helps Yevor a lot, but I gave those effects to a player in the Kaelar campaign for free as part of a "magic sword", so...

    It's a common item. He can have it for free. Why not?

    Also, can the ruby be implanted in the Lux Blade instead of attached to it? Just flavor-wise, but I like the image better.

    Sure. When they say "attached" I thought of it as sinking into the blade a bit, so it almost becomes implanted

    SHADOW WALK
    At 14th level, you gain the ability to step from one shadow into another. When you are in dim light or darkness, as a bonus action, you can magically teleport up to 120 feet to an unoccupied space you can see that is also in dim light or darkness.
