Ayo, I'm on Judea and Samaria week so I'll try to answer all the questions you have and hold some debates.
So guys, what do you think about Judea and Samaria? (You might know it as the West Bank)

Oh I don't really care, just leave each other alone if you can't get along. I know some of the reason that conflict is a thing but I'm not gonna start a political flame war.

I know but since this is a complicated topic which I don't know a lot about I'm not going to start a discussion about it, my only source of information is a school project in which I had to look up some stuff about the conflict.

I have absolutely no information on this topic. I’m assuming it has to do something with Israel and Palestine, but that’s it. I know this is supposed to be for a civilized debate, but could you give us some background information?

From a legal standpoint Israel looked like this at 1949
    [IMG]
Then after the six day war at 1967 it looked like this
    [IMG]
We have the Sinai peninsula back when we had peace with Egypt, we pulled out of the Gaza strip around a decade ago and the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) lost the elections there shortly after to Hamas, a terrorist organization that had been shooting at us since.
The West Bank got divided to areas A B and C
In A only Palestinians can go in and it's under the rule of the PLO
In area B only Palestinians live and the PLO rules there but they are under security of the IDF
Area C is the area where both can live and is under Israel's rule.

The name West Bank was created after the Jordans occupied the area after the Independence war (1948-1949)

The name Palestine comes from the Roman province of Syria Palestinia which was renamed from Judea after a failed Jewish revolt
They chose the name Syria Palestinia after two of the enemy tribes that caused the Jews the most harm, Assyria and the Philistines (literally means invaders in Hebrew)
From the un legal standpoint staying in Judea and Samaria is fine altho in recent years they have been saying it's wrong.

I would advise looking up the wars and watching some videos and I'll try to answer what I can

Also a lot of the fuss is because of the refugees after the Independence war at 1948.
The Arab leaders told blood tales about the Jewish population to try to get the population to really up against them while other leaders urged the families to leave and return after the Arab countries won (it was Israel against Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Suadi Arabia, Yemen, the holy war (jihad) army, Arab Liberation army and volunteers from the Muslim brotherhood, Sudan and Pakistan)
The propaganda backfired and most of the local Arab population ran away instead of fighting.
When we declared the founding of the sister every Arab in the borders of Israel was given citizenship.
All of the Arabs that ran away from where the wars were held was given a refugee status by the state but if they ran away and no fighting was in the area Israel declared them immigrants.
After the way the un founded UNRWA, a un organization to deal with Palestinian refugees, some years after that the un founded the UNCHR which is in charge of all the refugees in the world but they didn't stop financing UNRWA (btw they are the only refugees to have a un organization dedicated just to them, and their budget is around a quarter of the UNCHR budget altho they are in charge of less than a tenth of the refugees.
Also UNRWA doesn't try to assimilate the refugees (countries in the world are forced to welcome refugees and give them citizenship) UNRWA makes more refugees every year because they decided the refugee status can be inherited and kept even if you got another citizenship.

Also there is a lot of frustration on both sides cause we offered peace and independence a couple of times and the Palestinian leadership refused every single time

Ah, I gotcha. I guess the most controversial thing to me is the UNCHR by what you said. It probably isn’t compared to other things you mentioned, but I just don’t have any answers for how to resolve a decades long conflict. Quick question, how big is the A zone? I know city states can function like countries like Hong Kong, but how do you manage a country in that tiny space without any major commerce?

That’s less than even Rhode Island (According to wiki RI is about 1, 214 square miles).

Today I talked to one of my Jewish friends, and they said the main problem is that there are divisions between secular and Orthodox Jews, like how Orthodox Jews can only marry Orthodox Jews (There are ways around this). The biggest division though is the occupation of West Bank. Orthodox Jews hate Palestinians, while Secular Jews want to leave West Bank alone.

This is just what my friend said, so I could be wrong on a few details.

One of our claims to the Judea and Samaria is an historical-biblical one, our most holy sites and cities are there.
There are a lot of secular settlements and the view about should we stay or leave doesn't really have to do with from which stream you are (in Israel the biggest streams are the ultra Orthodox, modern Orthodox, national traditional and secular traditional)

Most Jews don't hate Palestinians, most Palestinians don't hate Jews. The minorities are a problem. This is also when the PLO cocooned into play, there where a lot of cooperation between Palestinians and Jews but after the PLO got into power it started arresting or bullying the Palestinians that came to our events.

It usually comes down to problems with the PLO/other organizations.
The PLO used to pay the families of terrorists from donations they got from other countries.
There's also the issue of their jails, some prisoners have an uzi while in the prison and after sunset they are let out and kill "cooperators" which are Palestinians that are acting for peace.

So yesterday we saw a Palestinian riot.
Apparently they go throw rocks at the IDF pillbox once or twice a week so the IDF had to respond with non lethals like rubber bullets and tear gas.

These kinds of conflicts always depress me a bit more than others simply because of how ceaseless they seem to be.

We used to be a country ruled by the left but after the intifadas most people switched sides, they don't believe that prefer can be achieved.

Well, how I see it some sort of peace has to be achieved either way. If the PLO is overthrown by the IDF, they will still have to integrate Palestinians or else another organization will come about and prolong the conflict further.
