Generic Fantasy - [5/7]

Robert: "Might that academy refer to those cultists? I'm fairly new around here."

 

Leren presses his wand to Leon's chest the second he comprehends the words (really, really fast).

Leren: "Too late. I'm going to burn through all my daily uses of this thing if you keep it up, you know."

Leon grabs for the ring, but feels the wand give off unbelievable amounts of pressure in his direction.
He goes flying into the ceiling, In triple gravity, falling in a shower of bricks. The armor is quite scuffed and dented, the cloak is somehow still intact, and the ceiling is now incredibly unstable.

Somewhat luckily, Leon appears to have gotten the ring, and now holds it in his hand.

A few of the men run off to do other errands while 3 of them escort you to the site.
Obviously, they start chattering in a rather expository manner.

Cultist 1: "Phew. With you and Leren combined, we might just be able to finally bring down that inhumanly strong bastard."
Cultist 2: "Don't forget the apparently hyper-competent new target."
Cultist 1: "How did all these overpowered people just come out of the woodworks, again? Just when we were about to finish and leave this backwater, too."
Cultist 2: "We're due for a promotion when we get back."

Bartender: "Hmm? Those guys? No clue whatsoever where they come from.... but I guess that actually makes a little sense..."

The cultists, along with the guy in the weird coat, have departed the tavern.

 

I roar, hopefully with the force of sound having the power to blow away the rubble that covers me.

I try to charm him again if it works I say
Dez"Leren that was marvelous sparring your as strong as they say, now tell me what was that wand you just used?"

 

Eradius: "I don't want to be rude or anything guys, but you're probably all gonne be sacrificed in the end. So no promotions."

 

Poking your head outside, it appears to be roughly 2-3 hours past midday.

You roar the greatest roar you ever have, but as you look out of your helmet, things have changed. The world around your is of snow, and you feel something exceedingly powerful and terrifying behind you. Everything goes black.
[GAME OVER]

Leren: Wait - NO! you can..cannot..c...."
"Yes, it was, was it not? This wand has a spell in it that allows me to create and destroy however much space I want in any certain pattern within 10 feet. It's very valuable and versatile."

You hear a roar from under the rubble Leon's buried in, but it quickly subsides, the rocks remaining motionless.

Cultists (In unison, creepily enough): "WaitwhatseriouslynotheycantdothattousyetwearestillusefularentwewedontneedtodiepleasesirIcanstillhelpdontkillme"

 

I'll tip and thank the bartender; then I head out the door. I look outside (what do I see in the town?).

Eradius: "When we get to the.. where are we going again? Well, whatever. When you get there. I suggest just running away."
Eradius chuckles.
Eradius: "Although to be honest, you'll still probably end up dying, due to some large scale sacrifice that will engulf the entire town."

I ignore the roar keeping concentration on the spell on Leren
Dez:"That is a really powerful item you have there with your self made spell you should be unstoppable. The only magic item, at least I think it's magic, Is this pendant [I show him the locked pendant]
You have any idea how to open it?"

 

The road outside the building is filled with pedestrians at this hour. Most, if not all, of the cloaked figures are moving west, towards the smoking remains of the Riverthrone Lord's manor.

Cultist 3: "Oh. You're joking, at least hopefully. Phew. Unless - no, that couldn't be true. Either way, warehouse we're heading is our final attempt to bring down those monsters that showed up yesterday."

Leren: "What is that? it's some kind of.. There's something in there, and a key... maybe the old lake hoard...? I do recall there being a lot of keys in the treasure... shame I never took it all.."

The glaze in his eyes is just barely starting to flicker, his hatred brimming under his confused, mind-controlled face.

 

Dez:"Where did you put the treasure or just the keys if this is a mighty artifact it's best if we have it"

 

Eradius: "Speaking of which, can you bring me up to speed on them, I want to know everything about the things I'm gonna be dealing with."

 

Erm, what did I miss? Alerts stopped working.

Thorston starts to pull out his sword and looks at the guy. In an evil voice:
"You still have a chance..."

Leren: A lake... under a lake? Yes, yes... under a lake far to the north.... I never even moved it, the dead dragon's hoard. Did I? No... no I couldn't have..."
One of his eyes has no glaze left in it whatsoever, and is glaring at you with intense fury. The other eye and the rest of him, however, remain serene.

Cultist 1: "You don't remem...? Ah, well. It all began yesterday, when we were almost done with this yearlong mission. We had finished stealing a key from a mine next valley over, covering it up. We had the gate, we had the potion, the cast came in today.. nobody knew what we were doing.... it was perfect."
Cultist 2:"Then all of a sudden out comes a bunch of wannabe heroes... couple of 'em wreck your tower, a couple more ruin Leren's lab, and yet another kills off our boss."
Cultist 3: "We're ambushing them and finally finishing their worst ones off in the warehouse we're going to."
Cultist 1: "Of the 3 of you left, you're with us, and the metal guy's coming. The ice mage was off to the tower with at least 20 more in tow, last I heard. None of the item recovery groups are coming back."

A distant, rumbling explosion comes from the direction you guys are walking in.

Cultist 2: "Aand they've started. Best be quick, now."

He begins speaking in a smooth, almost hypnotic voice.
???: "Ahh, so you speak the language of these people, then? And here I thought you were some spirit... Either way, I'm here for this very special ingot, and I'll be making off with it soon... It would best be in your interest to leave, as you know how my people are with knives..."

 

Thorston: "You're a robber too, huh?"

 

Not risking it anymore so I'll cast hold person and stab him in the chest after that i start looting his body

 

Eradius: "Guys, I'm a bit drunk if you haven't noticed already. It would be supprising if I remembered any of that bullshit."
Eradius puts Delyed Bomb Spell on the Elven Vodka.

 

“... So you don’t, then.... Goodbye with you."

The man produces a strange throwing knife that appears to be made of bone. Before you can react, it's in your left arm.

It's too late. He overcame the charm through sheer will, but is held before he manages to finish his lunge. His frozen body makes a satisfying clunk! as it hits the ground....
... Until his body starts floating off of the ground. His mouth begins moving, although it is less muscles, seeing as he cannot move them, and more like a puppet on a string type movement. A barely there, raspy voice starts coming out of his mouth.

"I'm... still... in... my... field."

Leren's ring floats out of the rubble, momentarily exposing the crushed remains of Leon's armor.

The warehouse is within sight. It appears to be quiet at the moment, but you can see people stationed at the entrances, looking like they'd burst in at any moment. It's not long before you reach them.
A woman with a bizarre headband ushers you over.
Headband Woman: "Situation: Leren's killed one of them, and the other is fighting nail and tooth. Get in there and kill the guy so we can finish this whole 'slaughter multiple gods/goddesses and take over the world' thing without distraction. Got it?"

 

Intriguing, we headed there yesterday. We did take their odd little metallic bottle. I wonder if they're searching the area for something. I'll head that way. I can't disguise myself properly anyhow.
