"I understand. However, Geneson is not a kind nation. I fear without a strong presence, your village could be seen as week. I will continue my advances on diplomacy, but I would feel more comfortable if you allowed us to establish a checkpoint within the forest."

 

"Your ideals are noble, but I am not safe yet. Neither are you, if they break the gates."

 

"What should we do?" Artemis asks.

 

"I will consider it and run it by other elders. You know I cannot make such a declaration on my own."

"That is up to you. We expect another seige tomorrow, and any aid with preparations are welcome."

 

"Ok, I'll see what we can do." Artemis says, bowing.

 

"I understand, Elder Solis."

I lose some tension after the conversation

"Speaking of, how are the other elders? I haven't seen them in a while."

 

Gaia raises her staff, doors opening.
"One more thing... do not feel pressured to bow to me. I am not ruthless like Xlentia."

"Most of them are fine. Arcyl has fallen ill, but it's merely a seasonal ailment."

 

"I hope so. Having one of the elders pass at times like this would surely be dreadful. I hope he returns to good health."

 

"True, true. Perhaps I should check on him personally tonight. Thank you for the idea."

 

"I shall, Miss Gaia." Artemis says, almost bowing again as Eve leads the exit, myself following before Artemis hurries over.

 

Gaia watches silently before the green mist fills her chambers as the doors shut behind your group.

 

I open a portal back to the realm of shadows once the doors shut.

"So what should we do for this next attack?" I ask.

"We could try what we did last time, I just hope Stephanie's been working on that prototype totem." Artemis says nervously.

"I believe she has been ever since she got out of hospital." I say.

 

Seems a faerie followed you through.
"U-um... e-excuse me, mister demon?"

 

"Yes?" I ask.

 

"Why does the nice dryad girl stay with you?"

 

"Because I love him." Artemis says, taking my hand and smiling.

 

"I never seen a dryad love a demon. Is he a nice demon?"

 

"He's a lovely, if genocidal, demon." Artemis says happily.

"Artemis isn't a dryad, by the way. She's a forest guardian. Though I can understand the confusion, they get confused for dryads a lot." I say.

 

"Why isn't she a dryad? She's just like a dryad."

 

"No problem, Elder. Now, how are you today? I wouldn't want to leave on a sad note."
