Peridot shrugs.
"More reasons I hate emotions. Now, I should wait for the one I promised a duel to."
Pause.
"..Also, is your name Eve? If so, some bio was looking for you in the library."

 

"Whom?" Eve asks.

 

"One of my siblings, I believe." Peridot says, opening a portal to the shadow colosseum.

 

Eve looks around the library.

 

Emerald seems to be watching from above.

 

Eve looks up at Emerald.

 

"...Do you remember Ruby?"

The guard pulls out a quiver.

"Again, near city hall. They don't really like visitors there, but if you just answer everything they ask of you, things should be fine."

 

"Of course. It's rare I forget." Eve says.

 

"She wants to speak with you. I'm keeping her away from you until I know you won't harm her, though."

 

"I've been given orders not to harm Ruby under any circumstance." Eve says.

 

"In that case, I have one question for you before I let you speak with her..."
Pause.
"...Why serve the ones who disrupted your life?"

 

"The ones who disrupted my life?" Eve asks, confused.

 

"Did shadows not leave you an orphan?"

 

Eve stays silent, looking a little hurt.

 

"...You know, it'd be sad to tell me it's classified. I may understand why things are classified, but you were a person at one point... why should who you are be some well-kept secret? It'd be like me saying that working in this library is classified information."

 

"It's not classified, I just don't want to talk about my past life." Eve says hollowly.

 

"...Forgive me for bringing it up. You are a fascinating subject." Emerald says, lifting a claw and revealing Ruby reading a book off to the side.
"Well, she wanted to ask you a few things. They shouldn't be as personal."

 

Eve walks over to Ruby.

 

She glances up.
"...Strange how I can remember so much about how you hated me, yet I seek respite anyways." Ruby sighs.

 

"I've been given orders not to harm you, so emotion cannot steer my hand," Eve says, demonstrating by firing a harmless foam dart that misses Ruby by a wide margin, "I was aiming for your head with that."
