Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"And what promise was that?" Shadow Stephanie asks.

 

"I had to leave just before one guardian was about to have his robot duel me. I told him that I would return the night after the king returned to give him his duel."
Pause.
"Would I promise to do something upon someone's return if I were truly intending to kill them?"

 

"Yes." Shadow Stephanie says.

 

"In that case, please explain to me how you would fulfill a promise with the condition of someone else returning if that someone else had died to your hands."

 

"They returned, therefore, their state of life is no longer relevant to the criteria being met. As long as they return, the criteria is met." Shadow Stephanie says.

 

He grabs the axe and leaves.
"Guess it's free huh?"

 

"I was not aware if he returned at the same time, nor did I believe it would be public knowledge. I did not count that night as his return.

So, if someone had yet to return and the criteria had not been designated as met, how would the promise be fulfilled if you had already killed the subject meant to return?"

If it wasn't, he would've told you last night.
Now, maybe you should check to see if your arrows were repaired. It's not like you have any more contracts waiting for you if you need emergency money.

 

"You kill them upon their return." Shadow Stephanie says.

 

Peridot pauses.
"If you are that bent on believing that I am out to kill you or your companions, then so be it. Regardless, I ask you allow me to return so I can fulfill my promise, albeit late."

 

"I haven't found anyone to fix them yet. The blacksmith told me to ask the guards, but it started to rain. Remember?" He thinks.

 

"And how can I trust you won't kill me or my companions, and then slaughter the realm too?" Shadow Stephanie asks.

 

I really don't. I only really know stuff you think or whatever you do when you let me out. So... that means you should go ask the guards.

"Only you can answer that. All I can state is that I have no reason to slaughter."
Pause.
"Plus, were you to anger me, then I would naturally have hard feelings against your friends. If you were to permit me this favor, then I will think twice before turning my weapons towards them were our paths to cross... and I take many contracts from the Hive Master."

 

"You're reading my thoughts." He thinks.
He walks away from the shop and searches for a gate. Seeing as most guards protect the city gates, he might find some there.

 

"Very well. Though, if you turn, then you shall be forever banished and cursed." Shadow Stephanie says, clicking her fingers.

 

Of course I am. I'm like a small, still voice that's inside of you... Just louder and not very still.

A few guards wave.
"Good afternoon! Heading out?"

"Define turn. I did not agree to become your ally."

 

"No, not really. Someone told me that the guards may know where I could repair my arrows. So that's why I'm here."

 

"Don't make me banish you again." Shadow Stephanie says, disappearing.

 

"Oh, of course! If you want, I'll trade you your arrowheads for my arrows. Otherwise, head to the armory near city hall." They say happily.

Peridot glances at Eve.
"...Did I miscalculate the meaning of my words? I cannot turn if I never was with the party."

 

"I'll trade them."
He takes out the arrowheads.
"But I'll probably visit the armory anyways."

 

"You did quite poorly." Eve says.
