Generic Fantasy - [5/7]

Dez:"Kid wait here I'll try to resolve this"
I start dramatically walking to the tavern and start pulling out my violin and start charming as many of them as I can

 

Once I hear the violin I turn and run behind Dez.

Leon: (to Dez) "Good to see you, comrade. It seems this brawl has broken out because of someone's stolen goods. Let us resolve this panic."

 

The PM of power is always at your disposal.

Either way, you do vaguely remember seeing a Mercenary Office upon entering this town... you just have no idea where you saw it.

Their eyes are beginning to glaze slightly, but it's nothing conclusive. The brawlers just aren't paying enough attention to you to get charmed.

 

Eradius: "Is that mount or that gator trained?"

 

Dez:"good to see you too. I have no idea what the hell is going on here, but I might have a plan to stop this. I'm going to make an illusion pretend that it's your pet ok"

I use my ilussion spell to create a beholder and try to intimidate them

Anyway, I head back to the tavern.

 

Petmaster: "Oh no, they both have a very good chance of murdering you. We generally figure that if a client wishes to purchase one, they'll be strong enough to scare or beat it into submission."

Where Dez saw a beholder, the world may never know. Seems like it would be a fun story, though.
An image of a beholder appears directly in front of Leon. The brawlers are ignorant of it for a couple seconds, then slowly turn their heads with an expression of horror.

The 4th floor appears to be another set of offices. However, when you peek your head in one of the doors, you find each room is being used as storage for a large collection of magic items.

The situation back in there, even though you were only gone for 2-3 minutes, is completely different in every way. Standing right in front of you are that one Lizardman that you keep seeing and a massive man with black armor and a strange cape. Floating in front of them is a large, horrific looking monster with a giant, one-eyed face and tentacle stalks. Cowering in fear in front of that are a bunch of scared/roughed-up tavern patrons.

 

Dez:"Good your paying attention now, end this nonsense now." I try to charm them again seeing as now they'll probably pay more attention to me

 

Eradius: "Well I guess you got that part right. I might come back as for now I'm a little bit short on money. Have a nice day."

How can I make more money?

 

I nope out of there.

 

I'll rummage through the rooms.

 

Brawlers: "OK! OK! We'll stop! Please don't hurt us!"

Petmaster: "Understandable. have a nice day."

1) Find people that need help and get paid to help them (mercenary work)
2) Get a job
3) Rob people

...and you're back on the street. The armed group is gone, and all seems normal.

Rummaging through the first 3 rooms, you find:

Gold-Plated Harp
Every single part of this instrument is plated extremely heavily in gold, including the strings. This has the small effect of making it unplayable. However, if you try to pluck the strings, you can faintly hear an otherworldly sound....
Everlasting Candles
When lit, these candles never use up any of their fuel, oddly enough.
Pair of Freezing Bracelets
When you touch these, they are incredibly cold. Putting them on would soon result in frostbite.
Pet Rock
When you touch it, four small rocky limbs emerge out the bottom. It rumbles a bit and goes back to sleep.
Lump of Gold
This... this isn't even magical in any way. Why is it..?
Perfect Bouncy-Ball
When bounced, this ball loses no energy. It always returns exactly as high as it was dropped.
Bag of Holding
You have no idea how big this is on the inside. Probably not a good idea to turn it inside-out.
Belt of Amplification
When wearing this belt, your voice becomes around 10 times louder. Your ears are still recovering from when you first tried it.
Color-Changing Underwear
Why would somebody make this.
Crystal Ball
You have no idea how to use this. Seems pretty simple though. Maybe somebody could help?

 

I'll take the harp, candles, crystal ball, and lump of gold. I'll head to the next floor.

This investigation was not a waste, I'll tell you that.

 

I look for buildings I could rob.

 

I'll do mercenary work.

 

Dez:"Good, also is anyone of you named Ulysses?"

 

I have a vision. The beholder closes its eye and becomes liquid, and conveniently there is a flask under it. The liquid pours perfectly into the flask, which looks like a potion glass. The beholder becomes a silver color and the potion flies away with wings that have a very similar texture to Dez's scales. A laugh is heard in the distance, and it fades. So does the vision.

I check my bag for the silver potion and see that it's gone along with the key.

Leon: (to Dez) "Comrade, I have lost something. It is very important. Wherever it is could be anywhere."

 

Wow. That harp was heavy. Either way, as you ascend the stairs, you're greeted with the 5th floor: Actual offices. Every room has stacks of papers dealing with some aspect of magic or another, and it's all so unbearably cryptic.

There's a block of houses that-a-way. Most of the businesses are filled with people, but the homes might just be empty at this hour.

A couple minutes later, you're standing at the Head Office Mercenary Group. Might as well be the best place to start.

One of the men shakily raises his hand. Said man appears to be a gruff, older type. Not armed/extremely dangerous, though, so definitely not an adventurer.

 

Anything I can understand?
