I'm pretty sure they're inside a building. Facing the counter, away from the street. In a completely different area of the town.

Dez:"No I don't want to sell, I'll take a look aroud and come by once I've foud something" I go check the spell books. Can I get a list of spells with their prices?

I turn towards Dez with shit eating grin and say,

Eradius: "Ha! Thought you could make more money out of me."

I leave the shop and say,

Eradius: "What a fool."

Heavy plate for both of them. For weapons, one man has a greatsword while the other has a sword and shield

 

I shield bash the one without a shield. If this succeeds, I charge and slam my mace into his face.

 

He's clearly telegraphing a wide strike. Due to this, you easily smash the man in the everywhere. He slides back quote a few feet but gets right back up. While that man is vulnerable, the one with the shield moves close to you, getting into a defensive position.

The day is young, life continues.

Outside lie a bunch of people, going on about their day. The cloaked figures seem to all have headed in the direction of the tavern for some reason, so their presence on this street is basically nothing. An ominous old man, who, ironically, looks younger than you is walking down the street. There's also a couple adventurers, a large melee fighter and a smaller caster. All in all, street seems as normal as can be in this place.

 

If I use a scroll, could I re-use it in other fights?

I leap and jab my mace into the chest of the vulnerable man.

 

I buy counterspell and leave the shop, read the book. Not having anything to do I start wondering around the city

With concentration, block a spell. If the rank of the counterspell is lower than that of the spell, it automatically fails. If the rank is the same, roll d6. 1-3 is a fail, 4-6 is a success. For every rank the counterspell outstrips the spell being cast, add 1 more number to success. (ex: a rank higher, success is 3-6, fail 1-2). Rolling a 1, however, will always end in a failure.

The old guy is standing outside the shop. He pays no attention to you.
Walking through town, you notice a group of cult figures all rushing towards the general area of the tavern. They look to be carrying something important. There are some random adventurers coming into town from the direction of the river, and quite a few more leaving town towards the west.

A scroll will glow and crumble to dust upon being used.

The blow is blocked by the man with the shield, though your pure strength is giving it problems. His sword stabs at a point under your main arm, a small gap unprotected by the shield.

 

Leon: "Your puny weapons cannot pierce what never existed. Or did it? That doesn't matter. What does is that you will exist no longer!"
I switch my mace to my left hand and let my right hand retreat to a more protected position.

I kick the shield one of the men is holding and sidestep to swing at his side with my mace.

 

I go to take a closer look at the cultists

 

I try to find a place where I can sell the crown and gems.

 

The kick breaks the shieldman's arm, you can distinctly hear a crack. The man with the greatsword, however, has gotten back up and barely manages to block your blow with the mace. The man with the shield uses his unbroken sword arm to again attempt to stab you in a weak point, this time aiming low for your knees.

You follow them back to the inn you were staying at. The men look around, seeming not to notice you, and duck into a back door.

Hmm.. As you entered town, you distinctly remember a market area with a bunch of stalls on the north end of town. You could also look more into shops, if shady stall merchants aren't really your deal.

 

I slam the shield down on the sword that aims for my knees. If the sword is caught under, I slide it back with my foot.

 

I try to stay unseen following them

 

I'll look into the shops.

 

The sword is cleanly caught by your massive shield, and is slightly bent. Before you slide it away, however, you spot the man with the greatsword about to decapitate Robert, who is standing with a blank expression on his face.

With the cultist cloak on, you slip into the back door. You find a small storage room, with a door heading out into the front of the tavern and stairs leading down into a cellar.

After a while of walking, you find a store with a sign saying "Magic Item Emporium". There appears to be jewelry, some magic, some simply cosmetic. Might give that a try?

 

I turn around and uppercut the man trying to harm Robert with my mace.

 

I go down to the cellar
