Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Artemis just lays where she is, cheeks and eyes wet, hand clutching her mother's necklace.


"What? Where?" I ask, looking for a gravestone.

 

"I'll just resurrect you, you know." Ihra says flatly.

"She carved it on a pumpkin or something." Alice comments.

 

Artemis just remains unconscious.


"What?" I ask, confused, walking over to where Artemis is.

"That isn't a grave! That's the pumpkins she was growing with Myria for Hallow's Eve!" I say.

 

Ihra tries bringing Artemis back to her senses.

Ihra glances over.
"One, who's the other girl, and two, do the thing because she's, like, dying."

 

"This is Alice," I say, gesturing to Alice, "And she's not dying. Shadow Stephanie said she found Artemis crying her eyes out here until she just ran out of energy and fell asleep."

Shadow Stephanie gives a thumbs up from her chair.

Artemis stirs a bit, waking up.

 

"Oh. Whoops." Ihra shrugs, turning to Alice.
"Nice to meet you. You work at the palace?"
"Well... technically? On paper, I do..."
Ihra glances at you, confused.

 

"She was a detective until she quit because she was bored, but still wanted to be called a detective." I say.

 

"Why?" Ihra asks.
"I got tired of doing cases for scum, and if I wasn't on the employee list then legally I'm a criminal."
"You don't look like a criminal to me..."
"I'm not. Especially now that I'm on their list of staff."
Pause.
"Oh hell, I probably should go make sure everything's still coming along back home."

 

"It's more the fact she has all the inside knowledge of the palace from working on the detective team that we can't just let her run free with it." I say, shrugging.

Artemis, having woken up, gets up, before hugging me and sobbing. Our pair of necklaces magnesite to each other and merge, forming a heart.

"M-Mu-Mum's g-g-go-gone." Artemis stutters as she sobs, hugging me tightly.

"Shh shh shh." I say, trying to comfort Artemis.

"W-We w-were going t-t-to t-try and c-c-contact d-dad d-during Ha-Ha-Hallow's E-Eve, but n-now I-I-I caaaaaaan't!" Artemis says, tears streaming down her face like small waterfalls.

"I know, I know, it'll be alright. I'm here for you," I say sympathetically, hugging Artemis, "Look, Ihra's here. Don't you want to at least say hi to your old friend Myria gave herself for?"

Artemis just sobs more.

 

"Oh, please. I need to talk to you in private later, because your other detectives suck and if I'm the only one going to be pinned with having inside knowledge and just running around doing whatever, then I've got some goddamn news for you." She says, annoyed.

Ihra kneels down to Artemis, hugging her.
"Hey... hey... I'll be okay."
Pause.
"I'm pressing on, right?"

 

"Not the time, Alice." I say flatly.

I just give Ihra a confused look.

 

"I can't words, I just got revived two hours ago, then went through the bounce-o-tron and then got put into a digital reality where everything has bars over their heads. I meant that it'll be okay." She sighs.
"...Besides, now we're both in the same position, right? We got by before..."

"Oh, whatever. I'm going home." Alice sighs, opening a portal.

 

Artemis just keeps sobbing.


Alice is met by a guard on the other side of the portal.

 

Ihra hugs her tighter.


She hesitates.
"...What, you condemning my home because I'm wanting to tell our king the shit we hide from him?" She asks the guard, challenging.

 

"What? No? I'm here to deliver a letter to Miss Artemis, from Miss Myria." The guard says, stepping through the portal.

"A-A letter? F-From m-m-mother?" Artemis asks, pulling away from the hug and walking over to the guard.

"Here you are, Miss Artemis. She said to specifically give it to you at this time." The guard says, handing Artemis a letter, her name written in swirling letters on it's envelope.

The guard steps back through the portal, leaving.

Artemis just stares at the envelope for a bit, wiping her eyes.

 

Alice sighs, opening a portal to her house. On Earth.


Ihra smiles.
"Well... what are you waiting for? Open it!" Ihra says, trying to stay cheery.

 

He looks if there is some kind of water in the cage. (Probably not)

 

It seems that the cage, in fact, goes deeper...
You can't see anything. Not without transforming.

 

He goes deeper, walking slowly with his hands stretched.
"Okay, let's go."
He uses his hands to see where he's walking, trying to not run into anything.

 

The way down is long and winding. If you keep going, you'll probably get turned around and disoriented...
Maybe you should wait for Ren to come.
