Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Well...we are sort of understaffed at the moment. If you want to serve some food for a few hours, then I could talk to my manager to see if we can arrange anything." The person says.

 

"Like.. If I fall asleep in this dream, would I be able to have dreams?"

 

She nods.
"If that can be arranged, that would be fantastic. Would it also be possible if I spoke with your manager for a few minutes before I started?"

He shrugs, growing a mattress of moss for you and laying next to it, seeming curious.

 

"Uh, sure. I guess he'd want to see you after all." The person says.

 

She nods.
"Thank you."
Pause.
"Should I wait here, or...?"

 

"It'd make it easier if you did." The person says, turning around and heading into the back.

 

She nods, keeping still.

 

Eventually an old man with thin white hair and a short beard walks out of the back, looking Ali up and down.

"So, you're the one looking to work for a night here, hm?" The old man asks.

 

"Yes sir." She nods. "I used to run a cafe, but I sold it a few months ago in hopes of finding my missing sister."

Her face seems elongated, despite it being covered with her cloak. And, again, the hand visible around her staff is furred.

 

"Might as well try now that I'm here."
He lays down on the matress.
"Still as comfy as I remember."
He falls asleep.

 

"So you've got work experience? I guess I could let you earn your room then. We just need more waiters and waitresses to deliver food to our customers, so that can be your job." The old man says, squinting a bit at Ali, his vision presumably not what it used to be.

 

...Ten minutes in, and you still can't quite fall asleep. Maybe if you try a bit longer, you'll drift off?

"That sounds great, but... if you wouldn't mind, could I please have a brief word with you in private?"

 

"Sure, come through here," The old man says, lifting up part of the bar at the end to allow passage through, "I'm sure we can work out the details and problems you might have."

 

"Thank you, sir."
Ali steps through.

 

The old man leads Ali through the back room, which turns out the be the kitchen, and into an office type room, a large desk with two chairs either side of it. The old man sits behind the desk, gesturing for Ali to take a seat.

 

"Sgavrinn, could you hum in a sleepy tone?"

 

She sits.
"Thank you sir. Um... First off, I want to be honest with you, most people shoo me away because of who I am. I don't want to hide that from you."
Pause.
"Do you believe in magical creatures?"

He nods, humming a lullaby.

Allllmost asleep...

 

"Ah..."
He tries harder.

You're seeing some sort of odd haze. You're dreaming in a dream, though.

 

"Not really, no. There was a supposed time for that long ago, but they're just fantasy stories we tell children, aren't they? Like Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny. They're just fun little stories for children to believe in." The old man says.
