Generic Fantasy - [5/7]

No i'm probably going to write it up, I'm just covering the basics right now.

Bartender: "5 Gold coins per bed, nightly."

 

Problem with a ceiling like this is that certain characters are active anarchical forces that seek to destroy the very things (gods, for instance) that define the power ceiling.

 

I take out 5 Gold coins and hand them to the bartender.

Of course I hide the potion from view.

 

I'm going to bump mine up again

 

Bartender(?): "So why would I trust you, now?"
It seems he's beginning to overpower the charm person through sheer force of will. his face outwardly shows no signs of struggle, but his eyes are aflame.

Yes, but in case you couldn't tell, even the highest tier magic I've written out is rather limited around them. One of the rules of arcane magic is that it cannot harm a deity in any way, and I don't think divine entities would fall to even the most legendary swordsmanship. Pretty much the only way to fight a god on even terms would be to ascend to godhood, and certainly some people would try, but I doubt they would last long.

Bartender: "First room on the left. Have a good night."

 

I walk up the stairs and hear what the other rooms sound like.

 

Oh. I should've looked at the arcane system, seeing as how the best way to fight off power creep is through the system.

 

Dez:"well I have had a chance to kill you for a while now, and you're are from the cult aren't you? I want to join you in you're quests to slay the gods."
If he answeres that hes from the cult I freeze and kill him if he doesn't I wait

 

There are 8 rooms, 4 on each side of the hall.
Leon is still downstairs, just sitting there. It's probably best not to disturb him.

First Door to the Left: Your room
First Door to the Right: Empty
Second door to the Left: Two people, male and female, asleep
Second Door to the Right: Empty
Third Door to the Left: Two people drinking and laughing
Third Door to the Right: Loud snoring.
Fourth Door to the Left: Somebody writing something.
Fourth Door to the Right: Empty

I'll take everything except his clothes and try to hide the body, after that I go in the tavern to get a cheap beer again and see what the other bartender is doing

 

Leon? I believe you mean Robert.

I enter my room.

 

Entering the tavern, you see the other bartender, a girl who does look remarkably like the man you just killed. No wonder the sibling ploy worked. It's 2 Gold Coins for some more of that cheap beer, and the female bartender is just running the place, looking a bit worried.

Yes. Yes I did. Maybe actual sleep and relaxation will help my current state? I'll look into it.

The ceiling is low, at least for you. Covering the entirety of the far wall, there's a large bed, at least 9 feet long. Looks like they built a room with large people in mind. On the side of the room closer to the hallway, there's a desk and a candle. Under the desk lies a chest to store valuables.

 

I exit the room and listen to the other rooms very carefully.

 

Dez(thinking):"I can't imagine the stress she's feeling, all this tavern work and just knowing that she was charmed maybe it's best not to add more fuel to the fire then I need"
I ask for a room

 

She looks so hurried that it's a surprise she even has time for you.
Bartender: "That'll be 5 Gold Coins for the room and 2 for the beer.... "

"Fourth Door on the right. Have a nice night."
Just like that, she's gone, off to serve more drinks.
Climbing up the stairs, you find yourself looking at an incredibly large and imposing figure, wearing a giant cape with exotic patterns of the sky and armor black as night.

First Door to the Left: Your room
First Door to the Right: Empty
Second door to the Left: Two people snoring quietly. Lights are off. Nothing much of interest.
Second Door to the Right: Empty
Third Door to the Left: Those two drinkers. They're so unbelievably drunk that you cannot actually tell if they're uttering words in common or not.
Third Door to the Right: Even louder snoring
Fourth Door to the Left: Someone blowing out the lights and going to sleep. They appear to be storing something in their chest.
Fourth Door to the Right: Empty

After you investigate the doors, you're headed back to your room when a lizardman with a violin on his back and a shortsword at his waist comes up the stairs. Looks like the same guy that was in the alley.

Random Announce-note:
I am working on martial weapon styles. I have 8 so far, all developed in different regions of the known world and then some. I wish to work on it as much in the coming days as I hope to on the magic system and spell lists, building them in a way that gives a very concrete but decently high power ceilings.

 

Note:by it being dark in the ally I probably recognize leon only by his voice.
I ignore him and walk to my room

 

I knock on the lizardman's room's door.

 

I slowly open it just enough to peak trough
Dez:"what do you want?"

 

Leon: "What information did you get out of the bartender?"

I duck a bit to not hit my head.
