Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"The best thing you could do is turn the Hive inside out. You know, save a race and be celebrated instead of being hunted because you used weapons worse than the Light Pulse Rifles you get all fussy over."

 

"I don't think stealthy assassination is exactly going to be easy without killing a few people trying to attack us." I say.

"Well, actually, all things considered we could probably assassinate him if he's not shielded." Shadow Stephanie says, becoming a shadow on the ground and quickly moving over to you, appearing behind you.

"We could just temporarily disable anyone who's trying to attack us to buy us some more time." Katie says, freezing herself in a cube of ice.

"As long as we can set up checkpoints for ourselves to get in and out of danger with, we could easily make progress toward an assassination." Stephanie says, summoning a pair of crystals, throwing one a short distance away. The crystals start glowing, and Stephanie seems to be able to teleport between the two instantly.

 

"I mean... you guys can just rally the high gods to overpower his control and liberate the group, thus weakening his control and liberating more."
Pause.
"Pretend I didn't include the word 'just,' okay?"

 

"Where can we find the high gods?" Artemis asks.

"I could try and get Tenebrae to come here again. Since she's a goddess, that'd probably help with contacting the other gods." I say enthusiastically.

"Suddenly I'm filled with hope, this plan surely won't fail or backfire in some way." Abigail says sarcastically.

 

"Okay, I'm getting really sick of little miss halfsoul over here. Any last questions from people who aren't her?" I ask, clearly focused on my distaste.

 

"Pathetic." Abigail says, disappointed.

"Will we ever get to see you again? Maybe we could meet up in Alaska!" Katie asks.

 

"Probably not." I shrug.

 

Katie runs over to you and gives you a hug.

"I hope we do see each other again then, despite the probability." Katie says, seeming a little tearful.

 

I hug her back.
"Aren't guardians supposed to hate humans?"

 

"Only if they're being particularly harmful to the area we're protecting." Artemis says.

"Maybe we can have a party here after we've defeated the Hive Master, and we can ask you more questions." Katie says, hugging you tighter.

"It's funny...I feel like this is the moment where I'm supposed to be sad, yet I can't seem to feel a thing." Abigail says, though a few tears seem to be rolling down her cheeks.

 

I glance at Abigail and roll my eyes.
"What, sad because you haven't killed me yet? Tsch..." I say as I hug Katie a bit tighter too.

 

"No, sad because you seem to have had an emotional effect on everyone else, and therefore me, so not being able to see you again is saying goodbye to a good friend I've only just met," Abigail says, wiping her tears, "Yet, I feel nothing. No sadness, no guilt, not even longing. Perhaps some part of me wants to."

 

"If you don't feel anything, then it didn't effect you. So, you'd be crying for nothing."

 

"Maybe it's because she's missing her soul? Or...maybe she's missing her heart, too?" Stephanie suggests, summoning her tome and looking through it.

"Oh, that reminds me." Shadow Stephanie says, before summoning a book, some black chalk, a few red phials and a curvy knife and walking over to you.

"I figure you deserve to at least give this a try, maybe if you're feeling lonely." Shadow Stephanie says, offering the items to you.

 

"What, summoning a shadow?" I ask, hesitant.

 

"Yeah! Don't worry, we wrote the book so you don't mess it up and make whoever you summon want to kill you," Shadow Stephanie says happily, "Just remember, we're not your slaves. We're more someone to ask a favor from."

 

"Sweet. Thanks, I might summon one for coffee or something dumb like that." I shrug.

 

"Let's check on the fire first, making sure everything is save."

 

"Yeah. You remember where it is? If not, you're kinda blind."

 

"You're seriously going to perform a ritual to summon a Shadow, a creature of darkness capable of killing tens of thousands in a single night, and give it a contract to go and get you a coffee?" Shadow Stephanie asks, "You're not going to like, get it to rob a bank? Or at least go to a good coffee store and get it to rob that so you can get all the stuff needed to make their coffee? Summoning a Shadow takes a lot you know, like at least one human corpse."

"A bunch of animal meat works too, if you're a wuss about killing people." I add.
