"Why would you focus on the risks, then?! It's my home and my reality at stake, not yours! Y-you... y-y-hhh..."

Suddenly, Emerald grips her throat and just falls to the ground, Sapphire uncloaking next to her.
"...Sister, forgive me..." She mumbles.

 

"Maybe something erased the trails? Did something happen when I was gone, maybe?"

 

Sapphire finds Shadow Katana at her throat.

"Stop whatever you're doing. Now." I say, serious.

 

"Nothing out of the ordinary, but we're at the edge of our territory. We may have to fight other packs for prey if we go much farther."

She freezes up, letting the strings from her claws fall limp.
"H-hey... she was g-gonna lash out at y-you i-if I didn't..."

 

"Away from her." I say, keeping Shadow Katana at her throat.

 

She backs up slowly.
"W-why are you...?"

 

"What the hell do you think you're doing to Emerald?" I ask, serious, pushing Shadow Katana against Sapphire's throat, though not enough to start cutting.

 

"L-look... every month or so, I knock her out... if I d-don't, she starts mixing things up, and r-really really bad stuff can happen. L-like, she can mix up two different conversations, a-and give a regiment a bad order."

 

"Oh really? Have you got any proof for that claim? How do I know you're not making up excuses for me catching you trying to kill her?" I ask.

 

"Maybe the fight with the vixen scared the prey away from our territory."

 

"S-she just blew up at you and accidentally called off an execution thinking the person to die was you."

"That would cause many many problems..."

Another wolf pads over to you.
"Hey, I think that vixen's up in the trees, asleep. Bardock, you wanna go up and tear her down?"

 

"She's here?"
He looks at the wolf.
"You stay here, she's mine. Where did you see her?"

 

"Proof of that?" I ask, seeming to lose patience.

 

"I'll bring you where I saw her. She's sleeping up in a tree." He says, padding off and glancing to make sure you're following.

Sapphire holds up a disembodied draconian head.

 

"Good."
He follows the wolf.

 

"Can anyone around here validate the fact you supposedly do this every month then?" I ask.

 

He leads you to a random tree, the burnt scent of fur emanating from above.
"Good luck."

"I can..." Emerald groans, slowly getting up again.

 

"Okay, can you please leave?"
He looks over at the wolf, then at the tree.

 

"Are you ok, Emerald?" I ask, concerned, still keeping Shadow Katana at Sapphire's neck.

 

"Sheathe your damn sword already, Aj." She sighs.

He nods, padding off silently.
