Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Jennifer finds Emerald leading Maria to what looks like a part of the interior walls.

He eventually trips up, dropping the lance.

 

"Maria!" Jennifer calls.

"Oh, hey Jen. How'd your 'date' go?" Maria asks.

"He was already taken by another of us. I didn't want to step on her turf." Jennifer says.

"Damn. You were doing so well too." Maria says, disappointed.

 

Emerald slides open a wall tile.
"Go in."

 

The pair enter.

 

Inside is a staircase...

...leading down to two utterly massive vats containing liquified gold and liquified diamonds.
"This is the extent of Mistress' hoard."

 

The pair just look at the vats in shock, having never seen so much worth before.

 

"Well...? Any questions?"

 

"Where'd she get all this?" Maria asks.

 

"Millions of dead, dying, and destroyed planets."

 

"Wow..." Jennifer says, amazed by what she's seeing.

 

"She's a dragon. She must have the best hoard. Clear?"

 

"I thought people employed dragons to guard their hoards; dragons don't normally hoard gold and valuables." Maria says.

 

"Dragons almost always have their own hoard. It's kind of like a symbol of status... and Xlentia's is overboard."

 

"I've never heard of that before. What would a dragon need money for?" Jennifer asks.

 

"Status. Bribes. Everything else you'd need gold for."

 

"Hm." Jennifer says.

 

"That's like asking why a king would want a crown and fancy clothing."

 

I focus on looking at his hands when he gets back up.

 

"I guess." Maria says, herself and Jennifer shrugging.

 

He gets up, then picks up the lance, trying the routine again.

"Anyhow... that's that. You're free to explore the other five realms in the portal room."
