SPOILER Does Mehme Live On Skiens Island?

Time for another theory! (@SPYROHAWK)

So, you may have seen this place:


It's a mysterious wooden house on Skiens Island. The inside is packed with crates, the back of the interior being inaccessible. This house has always puzzled me. It looks relatively new and well-maintained, especially in comparison to the fort, but it's in such an odd place. Why would anyone build a house on Skiens Island, of all places? In this thread, I will argue that this is Mehme's wooden home, the part we visit being the basement.

You may ask, what evidence do I have? Here is a summary.
-Mehme does not necessarily live under the white meteor. There's a teleporter machine to take us there and back, and the quest makes no secret of how powerful those are (they can take us to space, for Bob's sake)
-Yahya and Nohno may be mad, but they're certainly not delusional. They know exactly what is going on, they're just really obsessed. When Mehme says we're in his wooden home, there's no reason to dismiss him as mad. I choose to believe him.
-Both Yahya and Nohno have hidden labs in their basements, both with quartz themes and teleporter technology. When we arrive at a quartz themed room with a teleporter and no clear entrance apart from a teleporter, it's safe to assume it's his basement lab.
-Both Yahya and Nohno chose isolated spots full of their obsessions for their homes, Yahya in dense and rarely visited area of uninhabited and mushroom-filled forest, Nohno his own chicken infested island. Mehme would choose a place with plenty of bare wood that people don't go to very often... sound like Skiens?
-We can see a basement the rough shape of Mehme's lab under the house I showed you. You can see that the roof extends over it. This is evidence that there is indeed something under there...
-There are definite ties between ??? and Skiens island - it's where the painting comes from. Until now, we can find links to the other items (Small mushroom=mushroom=Yahya, Yahya wants a black spoon in post-quest dialogue). Could this be how the painting got hidden there?
-The CT usually let you explore pointless buildings and their basements and such. Yet this house is blocked off by crates...
-The house was added when Skiens Island was remade for the Gameplay Update. This also happens to be when the new ??? quest (with Mehme out of the meteor) came out.

So that's what I think, be sure to tell me whether you agree.

Its been over a year since ??? came out and people are still finding out stuff about it. I am intrigued.

Mehme is Skiens!

 

This house has an inaccessible basement too. And remember that Mehme's house is completely seamless including going through the meteor, and that the room is underneath this house, without any teleports. Even though your english teacher told you to over analyze everything, sometimes it's better just to look at the surface features.

Oh, and before the revamp there was no teleporter, but Mehme was still there.

 

Both houses have their merits as locations for Mehme.
And the room is not underneath that house - it's off map, about 15000 blocks away from the main map. The lab may be there, but it's not where Mehme's basement room is. I really don't see why Mehme would go into all that effort for constructing a teleporter that only takes him up a few blocks, when there's no security value in it. This means that the white meteor lab and the basement clearly seem to be separate places. Perhaps when the brothers redesigned their security leading up to the second ??? quest, Mehme installed the teleporter so he wouldn't have to stay in the lab and could get home. I also don't see what you mean by seamless. There's a teleporter - those can take you into space. We also know they work horizontally, one takes us from Yahya's basement to Nohno's. You'd also have thought given the obscurity of Yahya and Nohno's locations, he would've chosen somewhere less obvious, and farther from population centres such as Cinfras.

My alternative theory explains:
-Why someone built a house on Skiens Island (why else would they?)
-Why Mehme doesn't stand outside getting adventurers to help him collect wood or something like Yahya and Nohno do (he's on Skiens Island, it's dangerous)
-Why the teleporter is there (those things are used as long-distance concealed transport and security measures, not simple elevators)
-Why Yahya's painting is on Skiens island.

It's just a possibility I think makes a bit more sense, and I hadn't seen discussed before. I'm not saying it's perfect.

I was half way writing a response about how this is a total stretch and is a very bad and unsupported theory, until I stopped and thought about it.

The theory itself (the way you wrote it) may be flawed and lacking evidence, but the concept actually interests me. You may be onto something.

The point you made about the painting coming from Skein's island is a good one. It seems like a really random thing to need.

Now, Yahya and Nohno its very clear what they have going for them. Shrooms and Chicks. But not for Mehme. Likewise, we don't know what happened to Skein's island. People came back from the dead, but not really as "undead" like the corruption does.

Tying Mehme and Skein's locations together may be a start on figuring out their affliction...

The way you wrote it may kinda suck, but the fact that you made the connection is something I have to applaud you for.

Please look further into this, I will if possible.

 

What I like about this theory over almost every other theory, is that you brought something completely new to the table, that is well supported by lore, while other theories and new things brought to the table are barely supported by lore (The only exception being Spyrohawks theory

 

Maybe it's just a building used for storage?

Or it could be Mehme's home, anything is possible.

 

Used for storage by whom? The chimney seems to indicate otherwise, why would there be a fireplace in a storehouse? It's also a very odd place to put a store room, given that it looks too new to be part of the fort complex, and Skien's desperate crew would probably have looted a storage area if one was there. There are also storage areas in the fort, as well as rooms that could be used as storage. No reasonable army would want to be cut off from their storage in the event of an attack, they would store everything in the fort itself. It also doesn't look very Tromsian.

 

True, it does look new. Maybe we'll learn in the future.

 

could be Sotqin's house before he got dragged off to the prison of souls too

 

I know i said it was pretty good, but I hadn't actually been to Skiens island at that point. Elsewhere in the fort, there's a sign/diary entry which says something along the lines of, "the general tried to confiscate all the paintings, but we hid a few", fairly near the paintings iirc. I don't have a picture though.
Don't get me wrong, it's still a good theory, it's just that part.
