"Obviously, I'd hope you'd save my hide, but you're a nomad, right? Curiosity would probably get the best of me in your situation."

Alice lands and then immediately jumps, still having unpleasant memories of the night before.

 

A mole creature pops it's head out of the ground, before sinking down again.

 

Alice lands further away from it, waiting for it to start popping up before attempting to kill it the same way she had.

 

The mole creature still stands no chance against Alice, being killed quite easily.

 

Alice returns to breaking rocks, checking the room for Holly.

 

Holly isn't anywhere around, though Alice finds the next ladder down.

 

"But it's just a demotion, right? You're not losing your job?"
It turns to the supervisor.
"Is he?"

 

Alice continues deeper after collecting any materials she left behind on the floor.

"He'll be demoted to the patrols." The supervisor says.

 

Once Alice progresses deeper, she sees a familiar, slime-covered hybrid guardian lying unconscious in the middle of the next room, a few slimes around her turning their attention to Alice.

 

It thinks for a few moments again.
"Sorry Eran."
It shrugs.
"But I'm going in."

 

Alice, not wanting to harm Holly, sees if a blade of distortion energy still gets the job done against the slimes.

He sighs, nodding.
"I did this to myself, anyways. Go make sure you get a drink from the Maw of the Void. It's a bar in the center of town." Eran says.

 

Most of the slimes explode into lifeless slime, apart from one which manages to survive it, getting knocked back.

 

"Alright, thanks. But, hey, if it's any consolation..."
The thing bundles up the deer skin that was over his shoulder, handing it to Eran.
"Here."

 

Alice lets the blade flare up, stabbing it from a distance.

The supervisor shakes their head.
"That's not necessary."

 

The slime explodes like the others, leaving Holly alone, though with some more slime on her.

 

"Isn't that the point of gifts?"
The thing points out.

 

They hesitate, before nodding.
"I'll permit you to have it, Eran."
"Thanks..."

Alice checks for any other enemies.

 

There's a few insects buzzing around, but nowhere near Holly.

 

Alice powers down her blade and wipes off the slime from Holly, checking her vitals.

 

"Alright. I didn't let Eran get punished for nothing."
The thing says, suggesting it's time to enter.
