Ah yes, I believe you are referring to the Occulent, looking at it in the eye can damage you, I know it's range is pretty far.

Now this is a bug, and it seems you unfortunately had an encounter with it before it was properly documented on the wiki. If you log out while in a dimension, and you log back in, upon returning to the overworld, you may fall through the world into the void. It's still in the game, but it's easy to avoid if you just log out in the overworld.

I'd recommend just playing the mod itself + a few small mods that improve the overall experience. I'll be honest, the addition of Tinkers in FTB Departed made it very meh for me, literally everyone and their mother love using Tinkers, and would rather use that than the many many weapons from AoA.

Again, the OP has some info concerning some bugs and whatnot, and the Wiki has all the info you need about the content this mod offers. I know this because I've contributed it to it.

 

Do you have any recommended mods to install along the AoA?
I was thinking about immersive engineering and AE2, and something that gives me auto mining, like extra utilities.

Also, a couple of questions
1) Is there a list of weapons sorted by the damage they do?
2) Is there a way to repair weapons obtained from AoA mobs?

 

I can't really think of any on the top of my head, but I would recommend installing mods that won't upset the balance of the game too much. Though I have always like including Extra Utilities, as you've mentioned, and Open Blocks.

Unfortunately, no, making a list of weapons based on damage is a bit tricky, as you may have a weapon that does little damage, but have incredible DPS and such.

Concerning Swords though, the best overall sword is the Skeletal Sword, at 31 damage. There is one sword that does more, but it's more suited for a riskier playstyle.

Anyways, the weapon with the highest damage overall is the Dark Beast, but not the best DPS.

Rosite Ingots and Magic Repair Dust. Magic Repair Dust is for repairing weapons obtained from lotto totems, and Rosite ingots are for basically repairing everything else in the mod, weapons, tools, armor pieces, everything.
There's also this method, which unless you have an item at like 1% durability and want to repair it to full, it's not worth it.
