Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Alice keeps an eye on the insect as she slips down deeper.

"One for each guard, and tons more waiting to be activated."
He draws himself a card before putting the deck down.

 

"So, these things are manufactured?"
The thing waits for the guard to be ready to show his hand.

 

"Yeah."
The guard has 17.

 

The thing flips over his cards, smiling.
"If I wasn't technically on your watchlist, I'd ask how they're made."

 

The guard laughs.
"I don't even know, if that wasn't the case." He says, putting cards aside and dealing.
You both have face cards.

 

The thing, like usual, looks at his card.
There's silence for a tiny bit.
"You ever get crap for being a guard? I know that happens in some places."

 

"Yeah. It's annoying sometimes, but somebody's got to be in the guard. Someone has to... well, guard things."
You have a four.
"Blackjack." He says, turning over an ace and sliding his hand off to the side.

 

"I can respect you for that."
The thing pushes his cards off to the side as well.
"Had a few guard jobs myself, people would spit on my shoes in one of them."

 

"How lovely..." He says, both of you having an eight.
Your other card is a three.

 

"Hit."
The thing says, having nothing else to converse about.

 

A five.

 

The thing lays his cards face down and relaxes.

 

He looks at his, hesitates, then draws and slides his cards aside.

 

The thing slides their cards aside as well.
"So you usually have a partner with you on watch?"

 

"Yeah, but they got sick. Supposed to come out for a bit and then notify the higher ups that he needs swapped out for rest, but things flared up just minutes before our shift." He sighs, dealing it a nine and himself a queen.

 

There's a loud 'ding' sound as Alice enters the next floor, a light on an elevator turning on. It seems Like the elevator is working again, at least between the surface and the floor Alice is on.

There appears to be a large patch of dirt on this floor, rocks around it and in it's centre, as well as a few old crates and barrels.

 

Alice checks the patch of dirt, considering breaking the rock in the center.

 

The dirt starts to shift and move outward as a small orange-brown creature emerges from it, looking around. The force of the creature emerging from the ground knocks Alice back a bit, hurting her slightly. The creature looks like some kind of mole.

 

Alice waits to see how it reacts to her presence.

 

The creature burrows back down, before emerging under Alice and knocking her back again. It doesn't seem to be friendly.

A couple of slimes seem to have made their way over to Alice too, one of them with a strange bauble-like ball coming from it's head.
