Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

It has a blackjack.

"Pretty much my whole life. Recently got into the guard, which was my goal."

Alice watches it carefully, looking for other rocks to break.

 

There are still rocks scattered about like the last floor, however the slime launches itself at Alice, giving her a short amount of time to react.

 

"Do you get to go out of town much?"
It lays its cards face down.

 

Alice creates a distortion barrier between her and the slime as she goes to crush the nearest rock.

"Not much anymore. I travelled a lot when I was still trying to get in the guard. Not many people seem to like the job, but to me it seemed like a good way to help people."

 

"Well I think it's good that you got the job you wanted."
The thing eyes the guard's cards, seeing if there's any indication that he's ready.
"Where'd you go off to when travelling?"

 

He already seems to have looked at them.
"Just around the Darklands. I'm pretty bad with books, so I figure I'd learn by going to the cities and villages themselves."

 

"Is 'ere a problem with shapeshifters around there, too? Ready when you are, by the way."

 

The slime hits the barrier, attempting to re-align itself to try and hit Alice.

The rock is destroyed easily, though a round piece of topaz rolls from it's remains.

 

He deals himself a card before sighing and putting his cards aside.
"Yeah, plenty."

Alice collects the gem before breaking another rock, sending a small shockwave at the slime.

 

It puts its cards aside as well, getting the point.
"I would say that that's strange, but I'm honestly not surprised."

 

The slime is killed rather easily, some of it's essence coagulating and falling to the ground.

The next few rocks don't yield anything, though there are a few rocks with bits of copper ore in them.

 

Alice collects the ore and the slime essence, still taking the slow route of breaking every rock in sight.

"The rule had to come somewhere." He shrugs, dealing you a seven and himself a four.

 

"Yeah, though, it's weird to me."
The thing looks at his second card.

 

The slime essence just seems to be a lump of slime, rather sticky.

Alice eventually finds the ladder down, the next floor containing another slime and a large insect. Unlike the slime, however, the insect just seems to fly back and forth between the walls.

 

Three.
"They always try to sneaky, it seems."

Alice deals with the slime the same way, checking the list for a reason to kill the insect.

 

"Hit. But can't one just come back once the shift changes in a different form and say they're a shapeshifter?"

 

The insect just seems to be a possible nuisance if Alice gets in it's path, but other than that, it can be spared.

 

"That rarely works. The box sees through forms."
It's dealt a six.

Alice checks the list for anything the insect might yield, breaking a few rocks in the meantime.

 

The list doesn't seem to include anything related to the insect, but Alice finds the next ladder down.

 

"Huh. How many of those thing do you guys have?"
It puts its cards face down, a signal that it's ready.
