SPOILER What The Hell Is A Stirge?!

These little pretties can be found in a very specific swamp in the Olux swamp. Im pretty sure everybody has seen these at some point, but really
What are these things!?

Lets get a jot a few things down first

• They have the bat model, but stay close to the ground
• They live in the swamp, more specifically the water
• They're EXACTLY level 50
• They also appear to live in large numbers, you hardly ever find these things alone

My guess is that they must be some sort of insect, but are they? They might not be

Stirges are actually from Dungeons and Dragons.

The stirge was introduced to the game in its first supplement, Greyhawk (1975).[1] It is described as a large, bird-like monster with a long proboscis which sucks blood from living creatures.

So are they insects or birds? Vote in the poll above I guess

 

Pretty sure they are classified as Wyrms.

 

or, and i know this might sound crazy, but what if wynn was a fantasy game where not all the creatures are realistic/exist
